i know that the last one doesn't fit, and is a mediocre shot, but whatever. deal with it. ZUG!

I think the third and first have the most potential, but being a "true black"-contrast nazi, I wish they would be leveled a bit (especially in the case of #3 as it is B&W).

No1 Nice composition with the long shot but it is a bit crooked. Also those green machines at the far end look interesting, perhaps some shots of them?
No2 Very nice, I especially like the icicles.
No3 Is very nice but needs a bit more contrast.
No4 Very nice but again needs a bit more contrast.
No5 Not bad but it really doesn't do much for me.
No6 Good idea, perhaps moving a bit to the left to capture more of the cars side while still getting the front.
No7 It doesn't fit! A nice skyline shot of the industrial district.

I'm going to put in a vote for more contrast in these. Otherwise I like them; looks like a cool location.

It is a very interesting site. I've been there several times in the last month or so. There's a lot of stuff to explore in Detroit; I'm glad not everyone is too scared to do so .

I like the overhead shot, did you have to climb up a tower or something to get it?

was from the highest point in the tallest building in the complex, roughly the equivalent of a normal 15 story building.

yeah. the first and last pic aren't packard, but you know that already.

and no, i'm not the slightest bit scared of the dirty D.

for those that called for contrast: OKAY. i've been shooting with the in-camera setting at -5 contrast (for more latitude), but i suppose that i haven't been pushing the post process hard enough to get the POP back.

i'm very wary of "over processing" photos, so you'll have to bear with me.

I definitely understand being wary of over-processing. With the advent of Photoshop it has become all to easy to create really shitty looking photos because someone decides to apply five filters to a picture. Are you shooting digital? If so at least it is easy to try something and change it if you don't like it. If you're doing film then I understand being more careful, after all you're paying a lot more for each decision you make in printing.

Anyway, just my two cents, nice photos.

#1 This is a good shot, but... I think it lacks the contrast that makes this part of the plant so interesting. It's great to see all the bits but there are no shadows/dark space.

#2 Nice shot but kinda dull in terms of content. The triangle in the lower left corner is distracting.

#3 I know that your camera doesn't like the "daylight shining through" while inside these dank places. You managed to minimize this well. I have had many shots ruined with that camera for that very reason.

#4 I really like how you have offset the center. This shot would have been boring if it were centered. The tunnel branch starting at the top is making me want to be there to see what's down there.

#5 Oh, the industry. It's composed very well. You got the watertower all in frame and the streets in their disgusting glory...

#6 This is a good shot but I think it would have benefitted from blurring the background a touch. Not sure if this can be done by throwing the camera into macro mode.

#7 Detroit fucking rocks. It's been more than a year since I have been there. I must try to get there in June... who cares if this shot don't fit.

yes. this was acutually a first try at a HDR... i merged two exposures, one as metered, and one at +1.0 EV... so it is really lacking the darkest black that there should be in the roof.... and i didn't process it enough for contrast. but hey, the same image was already published on http://derelictions.org ... so i was trying to make something that i'd done great... greater? and failed. that's okay. it was mostly a test of the merge-to-HDR function, and to see if the A2 agreed with it. shadow darkness or not.

good call. haven't tried using the macro mode to force DOF... only been using the macro for "true" macro shots. of which, it does well at. woo.

also, about the problem of "light streaming in" (vicious overexposure and flare on highlights like windows when exposing for the whole scene..) stopping down has helped alot. i think i shot that one (#3) at 5.6 or maybe 8.
