| | | this is a case of having some amazing material to work with and long corridors all your pics are shooting down the corridor with a few exceptions mix it up, shoot at different angles, try illuminating the interior with some low key flash I get the sense of a really long train but can you shoot so it feels like the train is moving? what if you were to put a fresh cigarette that is smoking slowly on the bar next to a whiskey on the rocks? can you find some cool old boots to prop up against one of the bar seats and shoot a portion of it? you start to assemble stories around these props just my two cents

| | | when you do go back and edit this batch try the "sharpen" effect, then fade the effect to around 80%.

Unsharp mask is less disturbing than the effect, especially when you learn to use 'Radius' correctly. -Glass

Thanks for sharing that link, Glass. I hope everyone read it, because it's a damn good (and to the point) tutorial. Bookmarked. It starts out by distinguishing between resolution and sharpness. I have to admit I had problems with that at first. Being from the garbage-in, garbage-out camp, I thought to myself, if the resolution isn't there to begin with, how is a photoshop tool going to help? I see now how it's not that simple. Of course, I especially liked the short history lesson within: "The term UnSharp Mask comes from a photographic darkroom technique of exposing the print paper through an underexposed and blurred positive film copy of the negative sandwiched with the real negative." I immediate thought of the threads where post processing was derided. So many of these digital techniques I'm learning about now are just a new say to do what was done in the darkroom for the last hundred years. Neat.

Yes, I remember doing a similar procedure in the dark room where I used pin light to re-expose hi-density print paper to get a higher-contrast to achieve a faux sharpening mask. Photoshop isn't "cheating". -Glass

Agreed! I'm not from the arrogant "my images are contest winners straight off the card" camp. As a matter of fact, post-processing is one of the best reasons to invest in digital gear (personally I'm still mostly into film though).
