Seicer I believe you took what Misfit was saying out of context a tad. Here is what he said:

Anyone who proves to be a problem on the site, including anyone who trolls, creates useless threads and posts, or any other irritant, will be warned and then banned. For 99.9% of you, this warning has little meaning. However, for others, it is very relevant.

Understand now.

This is the only banning-related post I've seen from any moderator. Now, perhaps there's a post in the elections board I've missed, I welcome you to point it out. However, if we were seriously considering banning anyone who disagreed with us, don't you think there would've been some serious bannination going on already?

The only person who has been banned by us so far has been Thomas Story Kirkbride, simply because he was just a troll.

EDIT: Darkwolf got in just before me.

I concur with what Jester said:

"Censorship ? I've never seen so many locked threads without justification in the history of this place. Free speech ? It seems to be allowed and encouraged, as long as what you say agrees exactly with the new overlords."

From the mods that I have talked to, and the replies that I have seen, they seem to have a clear policy of,

"Anyone who proves to be a problem on the site, including anyone who trolls, creates useless threads and posts, or any other irritant, will be warned and then banned. For 99.9% of you, this warning has little meaning. However, for others, it is very relevant."

But who is to say what is 'useless' and what isn't? And what is considered 'irritant' posts? Because I was banned for a few days (and I received thankful apologies for) due to content on my site that "copied" AV's. Had this mod done further research, he would have seen the error in his ways.

So what if I make a post that may piss or tick a mod off? Should I be warned because it may go against his or her beliefs or reasoning? If I was a mod, I would have like to have banned some fuckers long ago because they do not contribute anything more than garbage in political rants, but then again, as a responsible mod, I would have let it slide or have deleted the political garbage.

But what is to say that any other mod won't find threads "arguing against UER" offensive to him/her? I mean, look at Dev's infamous signature threads which had basis, but was locked quickly because a mod disagreed.

At least AV was correct on this part: He let the conversations and arguments continue, because the vast majority ended up working themselves out or there was a resolution that was reached. With the locking-obsessed mods, they are cut off prematurely, leaving many steamed as they cannot get a satisfactory answer from a wide variety of people, not just mods.

And that is where the problem lies. You lock a thread prematurely, you silence out those that want to input their opinion. You also make it that much more cumbersome to send in complaints, since there is no Forum Issues board anymore. Instead, a flora of PM's will be sent to each and every mod, which will then get relayed probably to the Admin Board, and then there will be confusion becuase every mod interperts a situation differently. For instance, Skelly is probably not going to see eye-to-eye on many issues as Mutt or Servo because of experience.

Actually, I agree with both Mutt and Servo on most things.

Assuming that the forum Issues Forum is now dead and gone. Perhaps a new forum for discussion of suggestions about the direction of this site can be created?

I appreciate that forum Issues has probably been deleted as it was seen as a cause of tension and hostility but it did have its good points, It provided a place for the Discussion of new ideas with the administration whilst allowing other users to contribute. Kowalski's LDB revisions thread is a good example of this - People discussing new ideas with each other.

Under the old system if an idea was put foreward by a member and approved it was possible to see this merely reading the responses of the admin / moderation team and their reasoning. Things had an air of semi-transparency.

With a Suggestion form this element is removed. There would not have to be reasons given for any decision and it would generally be a much less transparent system. The element for public consultation is virtually removed entirely.

Dev's thread was locked because it had been dealt with. Av removed the restrictions he had placed on dev's account and I spoke with both privately. It was not locked because I disagreed with dev, in fact I went to bat for him.

If people follow the rules, they're going to be fine. Honestly, if the mods were deleting and locking every single thread that annoyed them, don't you think I would've locked or deleted this thread and then banned you and everyone else who I disagreed with? Come on.

Perhaps it bears repeating that the lack of a Forum Issues section is not the moderators fault. Av removed it before stepping down. One of the options that is being discussed among the moderators is reinstating it. I know, it's hard to believe that we might actually be working for you guys, eh?

Each moderator has a say in the administrative discussions on this site. We decide issues based on a simple majority vote. I really don't see how mods not seeing eye-to-eye will be a problem, unless all 22 have completely unique viewpoints which all happen to clash with the other 21. For example, we voted in a poll on whether or not to ban Thomas Story Kirkbride. The majority of mods (100% who voted, actually) voted for yes, so it was enacted by Av.

Too bad. I actually thought he was freakin' hilarious, but I know he got under a lot of people's skins.
