Fleetwood, Ok ghost town

Here are some photos I took of Fleetwood, a former supply stop on the Chisholm Trail. Fleetwood is located a mile east of Terral off of US 81, just north of the Red River.

I'm posting the location because it's pretty much a public place. The store sits on a dirt road, and a Chisholm Trail marker is just east of it. There is also an historical marker at the Fleetwood store.

Fleetwood had a school next to the store for a while, but disbanded after cattle trailing went further west. The store in the photos is not the original building, but sits on the foundation of the original log store. The brick building is from the early 20th century.

Last time I drove over there, Terral had a nice cafe downtown with some good food - it's always a good idea to spend some money locally!

There are lots of other ghost towns in this part of Oklahoma, too. I had a really good photo of an old gas pump, but for some reason I'm unable to load it (says it's too big, though it's 900k, the same size as my other photos. Hm.) Well, I hope you enjoy the photos!

Untrue; As Noah once said, it is better to wait till you get to a big town and go eat at a chain restaurant. By doing so, you will contribute to the creation of ghost-towns for exploration.

NV keeps a chronological inventory in his head of places that will become abandoned in the future.

So basically you are saying Noah can forsee the future with precision, and knows exactly when things will become abandoned? I always knew he was a badass!

Sort of in-between Tulsa and Enid, if you have some time, I'd suggest checking out Blackburn (pop 102 per Wikipedia) and Skeedee (also pop 102) in Pawnee County. They'll show up on a Google Map. I haven't been there in 20 years, but the places were pretty well emptied out even then. I found them when I lived in Hominy and was looking for old iron bridges crossing the Arkansas River, and there's a great one that leads right into Blackburn. Skeedee appears to be on an abandoned rail line, which is always a plus.

Other than that, just be sure to take US 64 and not the Turnpike. Also, between I-35 and Enid, don't take new 64 -- a half mile to the south is the old route. I don't remember if there were any buildings of interest, but it would be much more promising. (I may not sneak into old buildings any more, but I'm still a roadgeek!)
