I enjoyed your photos.

Most of your problems relate to exposure and focus control which probably aren't options on your Kodak P&S. Some areas are blown out, others are lost in the shadows.

But you do have an eye for interesting material and you aren't afraid to be a little playful (ie. image 5).

Yeah, I figured that much. I think I'll start taking a tripod from now on. Thanks though!

You can do almost anything you want with the exposure and such. Yes you are limited to what your camera can do, so am I. My mother in law and my brother has your camera, and trust me, it can take some really nice shots.

Just play with it. The exposure and other menu settings.

Some of the things you should work on...just picking examples...

1 - The shot isn't level. You can level it in post processing. It's hard to get them level sometimes on a point and shoot. When I use my Canon A80 the screen is too small and the viewfinder is too crappy to always get them level...but that's what post processing is for.

3 - Lens flare. You shot into the sun too much. That's not always bad, but you have to do it on purpose. In this shot the flare is just distracting.

5 - This is on the right track, though I don't think it's level.

6 - Your shutter speed was too low and the shot is very soft. Up the iso, use a larger aperture, or use a tripod or balance the camera on something.

7 - Too dark. Need to expose more. This type of shot (with a bright area and deep shadows) will be very hard to get right on digital, though.

9 - I like this. Could have more shadow detail, but you're on the right track.

11 - Best shot by far. Good composition. The sky sucks, but you can't help that. Good shot.

12 - Tie for best shot. I would go black and white and use photoshop to make the building a bit brighter (learn about layer masks).

13 - This is very good. The only thing I'll mention here is that you should try to get different angles and use the "rule of thirds" (look that term up). It doesn't necessarily apply to a shot like this, but I thought I'd mention it here.

14 - Really watch what's in the frame. Cutting off the bottom of the door ruins this shot for me. I also think it would be better if the window in the background was fully visible in the doorway. It would be a more interesting composition.

Hey thanks man.

According to my optical viewfinder, the whole door was in the shot. That's why I'm looking into a dslr. Half of my shots are turning out differently because I'm lining everything up just right in the viewfinder, then the picture comes out off-centered, or something else.

Use the batteries, and the lcd display on the back of the camera. it shows you what the ccd sees.

If I do that, my camera will be dry after 20 shots, guaranteed. As of now, without using the lcd screen, it's done by 70ish.

Go get yourself a set of 2500mah Ni-MH batteries. They will last a LOT longer.

Energizer makes a very nice Ni-MH battery. I've relied on them, and filled my card with zooms, power on and offs, and going through the library on the card with only 4 batteries.

My mother-in-law (uses radio shack batts acctually) and brother (uses an older set ot Ni-Cads) have your camera and have no problem with batteries. It's a good camera. But always have a spare set of alks around. I've salvaged the batteries from my flashlight once. Lasted 4 shots though, but I got them.

You sure about that? My sister's tried using rechargeable batteries with her camera (nikon coolpix 5mp p&s), and it was like, spazzing out. It would turn on, and not turn off, and do all sorts of crazy stuff. I'll give it a shot, because whenever I go UE'ing, I have to buy a 4 pack of batteries (around $5). And it doesn't help that it's cold out, so unless my camera is in my pocket the whole time I'm outside, it won't turn on because it's too cold.

Happened originally to my mother in law too. She had the batteries charging on Ni-Cad and they were Ni-MH. Plus you cannot use batteries that cannot provide enough current. The Ni-MH's are the best (aside from Li-Ion), and really should be used in digital Cams.

Welcome, and yes, I don't see as to why you wouldn't be a full member soon.

Nice work too. (if I didn't say it already)
