Here's a few shots from a recent exploration. The pictures were taken with a Minolta X-700 (either 50mm f3.5 macro lens or 28mm f2.5) using Tri-X 400 film.

These really aren't contrasty enough for my tastes. What were you shooting the TriX at? I find this film is really only good for pushing. Maybe try printing these a couple of contrast grades up and see what you get?

These shots are lovely. It looks like you indeed put a lot of work into them. The contrast isnt bad but you might want to switch to a higher contrast filter.(As Leviathan suggested)
The film isnt a problem at all.I shoot almost everything I do with TriX 400.All I would recommend is to try a different filter and see if you could get a little more contrast. The film is great for pushing and you could probably try messing around with that for shots like 1 and 4.Or you could just buy 3200 film.TriX is usually the cheaper bet though.

Hum... I'm kinda new to the B&W world. So what filter would you suggest?

BTW, the pics you posted are nice.

Thanks!
Do you remember what number filter you used on these?
If so try going up a half or whole size.Test them first and see how it comes out.Number six looks like your using a really low filter.I usually start off with a 2 and work from there.Make sure to look at your tests and make sure your not losing fine details.
Try that out and let us know how it goes.
Your doing great work already and it shows that you spent some time with these.Keep em coming!

Yah, I just read about filters with B&W film. For those shots, I wasn't using any filters at all... I'll go buy some and check what it can give!

Here's the pic that won't show up... The link wasn't correct...

Anyway, thanks for you comments!

Try red gradients, they kick up the contrast on the industrial genre! Solid red works too, but the gradient gives you a lot more to work with I think, especially with daytime shots when you can choose to have the heavier red end of the filter on shadows and deepen them that way.
Also, most camera stores really rip shooters off on filters. Check ebay first--good luck!

Cool photos, love the textures. They do seem somewhat low-contrast but it sounds like you're looking into ways to play with that so good luck to you! By the way, I love the one with the two people heading down the stairs, the way you focused the picture is wild.

While the pics are not very contrasty, I would not say they are too UNconstrasty either. I went thru the contrast filter staage, even had one of those Ilford MG filter kits for my enlarger. Found all to be useful in moderation but also too much can be a bad thing. I see alot of images out there with contrast pumped up to the max, almost to the point where it's distracting. Anyhow, constrasty enough or not, I think the photos were all super, keep it up!
