moved from another thread but still very helpful since texas has so many venomous snakes that lurk in all the places you love to go.

I would also like to add that all the snakes, but especially rattlers, will be coming out from their dens right about now. They will be slow to respond at your first step, so it's easy to walk right up on them before you know their there. It's a little harder to walk away!

I am the shadow at your side......

youll need to carry around several types of anti-venin it is species specific

dont even bother doing the cut and suck treatment all youll do is get infected and bleed all over your car (pit viper venom is proteolytic it bonds to the proteins in your tissues and starts breaking them down on contact)

best advice is watch where you sit and where you put your hands and feet and if you get hit apply gentle pressure and get to the hospital

met this little fellow today while exploring he was torpid from laying under a cold building foundation all night (rattlers are diurnal) but tossed a few pebbles to get him moving

Actually, most rattlers are crepuscular rather than diurnal but you get extra credit for the propper use of "antivenin" rather than the common misnomer "antivenom"

I'm a blatant waste of time and resources.

If anyone wants it, my lecture today is about toxic critters and plants. It covers snakes, spiders, scorpions, bees, poisonous plants and mushrooms.

It's a powerpoint file so I'll have to email it. PM me your email if you want it.

If I got bit by a snake, I'd try to catch it and go MGS3 on it.

It would probably just lead to me getting bit several more times, but it'd make me feel better. >_>
