Your shots often have a bit much dead space, maybe try angles that cut out some near wall unless you wanna go for a strange perspective that has pleasing patterns. Some photos might have worked better as portraits rather than landscapes, such as seven, where you'd get the radiator and window reflection all in frame, yet cut down the uninteresting sides. Same situation in number two. Number five might have turned out better if you shot the other direction, shooting with the sunlight instead of into it, but I am making an assumption based on what I think I see. Catch the shadows, work with the available light and, when possible, seek out interesting colors.

I think it's cool you're trying hard. Your photos will be with you decades from now, long after these places are gone. Might as well make them the best you can.

The decay in number four is delicious.

Not true. Theres one in SC and another (I think, I haven't gotten to this one) in Alabama. Theres an active one in NC too. They're everywhere!

Yaggy, thanks for the well thought criticism. Despite not openly asking for advice I posted in this forum for a reason.

Taken from the tower on the central section of the one in SC. definitely not the biggest one, and the wing shape is a little unusual but I'd definitely call it a Kirkbride.

Beautiful building and photos. Is it in the DB? I'd love to read more about it.

On some of them I think the composition could be a little better; in 2 it seems like you're caught between two unrelated subjects. It's mostly a problem with 1 and 2. I like 4 and 5 a lot.

Would it have been better in #2 if I had not gotten that last inch or so (picture scale wise) of wall on the left? Pretty much to the left of the corner?

Theres a door... but I'm not sure how far I would have to go to get it in frame.

I'd say the entire left quarter is useless. The window could be framing the left side of the photo.
