question....have any of you ever encountered snakes (rattle or water mocossin (SP?)) while exploring in central texas? should i pack antivenom just in case? i worry about snakes in abondoned buildings but even more for draining.

Yes, I have. antivenom is a good thing to carry with you, but as I understand it a trip to the hospital is still in order. I have come up on water moccasins several times. Never a rattle snake, yet. Cotton mouths are aggressive, and will not always try to "flee". They often become the attacker.

I'm gonna have to disagree here and say antivenom is probably a bad idea. Most snake bite victims have no idea what kind of snake bit them or even if they were envenomated (snakes don't envenomate at every bite). Antivenoms also run the risk of causing anaphylactic shock, which isn't something you want to happen to you after a snake bite and away from any sort of medical experts. Besides, unless you're a toddler, most snakes of Texas are not so poisonous that you won't live a couple hours to get to a hospital.

Read up.

Not to be nitpicky gutfree but it would have been better to put this in a new thread. Otherwise some good info for Texas explorers.

Was in Austin from March 13 to 22nd. SXSW was a freaking blast. 6th street blew my head clean off. Shiner Bock replaced the blood in my veins. We did that "Wonderworld" cave shit one day and then saw the old frat house from the observation deck and said "fuck it, we're doin' 'er"

So we did the Pike House all baked, saw no ghosts, smoked another gagger, and went back to Austin to see bands. I explored Allen's Boots and found a Hat, I explored The Continental Club and found Dale Watson (and a pissy, gross men's room) I explored Antones and found Bob Schnieder...must I go on...........

01:14:16] <Chronic> Conrad...ya gotta go....
[01:14:30] <nightbird> yes Mr. Black, life is funnier than a pocket full of stocks! And...Tim has legal friends in Chicago...we'll get thru this!!!
