| | | Hey, Thought I'd share a few pics from this weekends trip to a great 1930's industrial building here in the South East UK. The more 30s architecture I see first hand the more it grows on me, though it does tend to have to be on a grand scale to have a major impact, personally speaking.
*tips hat to Pete & Sam for heads up on the location*

| | | Hi, Opted for the 'arrive on site before sun rise and stay until mid morning' approach, that way across a four hour period you get a range of light from night to day and everything in between! Will get a few more pics up in this thread when I get a sec. Cheers, JD

| | | I know this location, it's been in the media a lot recently. I don't suppose you say the article in the Guardians G2 magazine? It talked about how Helsinki's new courthouse was made from a renovated brewery and compared it to how we deal with our old buildings here, if i'm correct this was the main example. Soon to be demolished for a business park? This could have been put in a PM really...

It's a large mixed site split between production and admin buildings, it's been home to several varied industrial processes under a few different companies over the years since its construction in the late 30's. It's been totally cleared out inside, the only things still left anywhere are fire extinguishers. But that just makes it more fun to seek out nice pics with just the fabric of the buildings as your subject. Few more pics

Ordinarily I'd have no reservations about letting a fellow UE'r know the location and details of anywhere I've explored, so long as they were trusted and known to me. In this case you have only today joined UER, I have no idea who you are and your first post is to a thread which concerns a location currently the subject of some debate as discussed below. There's been a couple of instances lately amongst some UK explorers, I assume you're from the UK, of accusations thrown concerning people keeping locations secret. On both occasions these places have been anything but secret, it would be quite a feat to keep secret such massive structures which are in plain public view. If I and others have been selective over whom we share information with I don't see what concern it should be to anyone else? I don't feel obliged to reveal every intricate detail of every location I visit, and if others interpret this as petty or secretive then perhaps it is they who need to address their thinking on the matter? It doesn't concern me. So given this current state of affairs you might think I could go some way to quashing these secret keeping accusations by freely giving out information to anyone who asks? But I'd only have need to do that if I actually cared for the opinions of those making the accusations more than I do for my own integrity, and as that is not the case I'll continue to do my thing as I see fit. I have no doubt that those who feel I am keeping locations secret will, if they have not already, come across this location. At which time I am also certain they will proclaim their greatness at having outwitted the 'Secret Keeping Jondoe'. It will then be written up as another triumph in the imaginery conflict of them and us, and all the while I'll be off exploring without care enough to raise even an eyebrow to their hollow victory. LOL! Lastly, apologies for such an involved reply to a simple question, especially if you are a mear innocent individual UK explorer. Drop me a PM if you want to discuss this some more? Cheers, JD [last edit 4/2/2006 10:06 PM by Jondoe_264 - edited 2 times]

Fair enough mate. I am new to this 'UE' thing. Basically, an amatuer photographer looking for something a bit different to shoot.

Sounds complicated. I guess the element of competition in inevitable though, people must like your work if it makes them want to find these places. I will PM you, thanks.
