Still can't picture it. Lubbock has lots of bar so I'm not sure why you would want to go outside the city. But what do I know??

Slaton. That's it. God I haven't been to Lubbock since I was in college at ENMU in Portales. Slaton was the hot drinking spot then, and if I'm not mistaken, the strand is down that way.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

I don't really remember any, but that's not to say they weren't there. I just remember one and it's been gone for years. There are a few other places there to explore. I just haven't had the time to go back. It's only about 15 miles from where I live.

I don't know how frowned upon thread resurrection is here but I have some pertinent information.

The tunnels underneath Tech are very extensive and connect every building, however they don't necessarily connect directly underneath. Also, there are very few exits and it gets extremely warm down there. The only reliable exits are ones that lead to machine rooms for the various buildings. It's worth noting that the hatches to the outside are usually padlocked, so it's not a stretch of the imagination to see yourself getting stuck down there. Anyone who gets down there should watch out for screaming hot pipes with very little insulation and very cramped walkways.

The abandoned hotel down town is in the process of being gutted for scrap metal. Most of the floors above the fourth floor have caved in from the pipes being ripped out. I haven't been there in several months, so I only assume it's been stripped out more. The view from the top on a Saturday night is fantastic though.

Actually it was gutted to make it into condos, but I don't if that still going to happen. There hasn't been anymore work done to it in months. I work in the building next to it. It's still a pretty cool place to see.

Sorry, I know I'm ressurecting a post (bad! unclean! unclean!), however, I happen to work here at Texas Tech, and yes the tunnels are real. They are used by the Physical plant employees and are rarely unoccupied. Also, there are tunnels under Lubbock as well. I live close to a small park with an entrance to these tunnels. They can go for miles, but in the recent years, gang activity has been increasing steadily in these tunnels. Never go alone! If anyone has questions, personal message me and I can help.

So I had a pretty busy day today in lubbock. I wound up hitting several sites around town throughout the day, but...no camera to document them. First I went to an abandoned office/storefront downtown. There isn't really a way in, save a piece of sheet metal cut out just big enough for me to squeeze through. On the other side...and elevator shaft dropping about ten feet with no way to get in even if I felt like trying to crawl along the edge. Also from what I could tell, no elevator.

I like to check manhole covers to see what's underneath the oddly labeled ones. On the backside of the same building I moved what had to be a 100lb cover and found a ladder that went down three feet before descending into what seemed to be very deep water. Pipes and cables were running through the flood water and I couldn't tell if the tunnel branched off and ran under downtown or was confined to this small cylinder. I had to brace my self on the building and push with my legs to move the cover back into place.

After that, on a tip I heard on here I went looking for the dog heart in a parking garage someone posted about a couple years ago. I found oddly immaculate cars on each level of the parking garage save the top. Usually only four or five per level. Not much to see other than the odd parking scheme. The bottom level was gated off to cars but a person could squeeze through. I didn't have enough light for a space that expansive so I moved on. It did look like there may have been a room down there though.

Next I went looking for the Lubbock storm drains and learned the true meaning of claustrophobia. At one point the tunnel arched upward and slowly began to shrink till at the end it was the size of a small sewer cover. Sort of like looking at a Dali painting or the Faults of Amigara manga. I left to save my sanity.

Around midnight tonight I hoofed over the Tech campus and hopped into a steam tunnel entrance I had been wanted to explore. I left a length of chain propping the hatch slightly open(and later returned it to normal) and went in. The Tech tunnels are actually pretty dull and most useful as a means into other areas. I felt like I walked for half and hour but in reality probably walked for about fifteen minutes and popped up inside track when I got too hot to walk in there anymore. Unfortunately the track is completely fenced off and locked. After poking around the press box I went back into the tunnels.

Eventually I came out in the Chem E building which is pretty non-descript. I wound up leaving by a door someone had left propped open. Mad skillz to get into there at night. After trying to no avail to get into the tunnels near the library I noticed a campus officer seemed to be hovering near me in his vehicle so I hoofed it on home.

God with a camera this might even be interesting.

Sounds interesting as it is. Would have been nice to have pictures though to see what the places looked like. Still, sounds like a really nice outing.
