signals for ue?

I was wondering if any ue teams have established some degree of signaling system for dealing with possible danger. I was thinking the other day that if a person falls partly through a floor they are likely going to need at the barest minimum some degree of medical help. I think there should be some type of signal system to alert others if there is danger, security is spotted, or help is needed for some reason. Just my thoughts. If I am full of it you can tell me.

There is a thread very similar to this under the Tutorials section dealing with systems of communication, you may want to check it out:

My thoughts though, if one was to fall through the floor and get stuck, getting caught by security wouldn't be on the list of immediate priorities. Because of this you might as well just take along a walkie-talkie or cell phone and let someone know, even if security does find you they could help you out before they start questioning you

I find walkie talkies to be quite affective but sometimes silent signaling may be necessary. Instead of trying to come up with a whole new set of signals I suggest maybe using existing military type signals, they are pretty easy to catch on to and are somewhat universal from my experience.

Many of the Twin Cities explorers use the Rayovac headlamp or similar headlamp that has a red LED. The given signal for "friendly" is a couple of flashes from a red headlamp.

Mental Image: Me, halfway through a floor, calling on my cellphone. 'hello? Mom?'

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are!!!

Signals are great but not a substitute for sticking together while exploring, especially a site that has obvious danger areas.

Military type hand signals would work well if needing to communicate to other team members in your line of sight while trying to remain undetected by po po, security or other unknowns.

I like the idea of the red light for area explorers to signal friendlies. I have been in sites and encountered others but had no idea if they were friendlies, homeless, kids, or what have you. But they were unaware of our presence as it's dark there and we explore quietly.

Perhaps an area group could designate a common channel on those little walkie talkies? That way, if you ran across another group, go to that channel to see if they are "in the know" and respond.

If you see another, perhaps a hand signal, akin to a gang sign, that only other explorers would know to signal a fellow explorer... and no, not the finger either.. LOL Maybe sign language for U and E? Or better yet, the sign for "Friend"

Police would be this:

Danger would be this:

Just some ideas

I propose a secret handshake something like the Masons had so we can tell if we are meeting a real explorer or just another tourist!

Honestly hasnt this been discussed before?

I've said this, A LOT...
I'm new, so please be merciful....

I recently had an "bad" experience while on site and honestly asked this same question. Is there a "secret" signal?

Problem is... We make any note of this online and then, for the most part< EVERYBODY knows! Not only the UER'S...

Any thoughts? Frankly, yelling into an abandonment to learn if anyone is there doesn't seem to me to be a smart idea... Walking into someone, or some group not knowing thier reasons for being there might not be a good idea...

Problem with all this secret hand shake crap is you have to get in range of the other people, by then if thier not friendlies your kinda screwed.. Pretty much yer best bet is to stalk the other group untill you are sure who/what they are.. Sittin there doing hand signals and flashing lights is gunna suck a whole lot if it's a cop/guard.. But thats just my opinion.. as far as walkie talkies go if we hear someone else on the radio we switch channels almost instantly and remain silent for a while..

And the fact that any signal won't be any secret is also a major point.. whereas the hazard dots I wanted to make in that other signal thread it wouldn't matter, it would be actually good if it was common knowledge, something like this wouldn't..

what about something at the entrance to a site? something subtle, like four bottles forming a T, or a couple small toys in a noticable place? Obviously in that case you'd collect it on the way out. that way, the sign would only be in place while the site was occupied. It could be like a personal insignia, what each UEer uses to form a specific pattern that everyone would recognise. that is, let's say the pattern is a T. you can form the T using any items/material you want-just clean up after yourself when you're done.

Me and my crew use signal flags for all our sensitive communications while on mission. They are a silent and effective means of communication and never run out of batteries like 2 way radios or cell phones.

Here's me giving the "All Clear" as we get ready to infiltrate a flea market..

When I am exploring with others, we generally just stick close to each other. That way, if somebody falls through a floor, gets hurt, or spot security or police, everyone knows about it right away. Then, we take the necessary action as a group. I trust the people I explore with and we all know how the others are going to react in any given situation, so we don't really have the need for hand signals, or radios.
