| | | The old buildings of the Trafford Press now lay unused, and abandoned, except for active CCTV security. I wasn't able to get in, the camera's were following me around as I took external photographs. Most of the photographs I took are quite disinteresting, just building exteriors. However, they have a huge ornate doorway, and I just had to share it with you.
Have at it. All criticism wanted. Uhm, does anyone know why UER is cropping my image. Its much wider than its showing here (and yes, its under 100kb). Is there a width restriction? [last edit 3/17/2006 2:58 PM by Milambar - edited 1 times]

| | | white balance is off, seems too blueish. could probably fix this with some post work. try adjusting your camera settings before shooting, in the future. the ornate details would probably show better if it was taken at a different time of day, but now I'm just being bitchy. a final thought would be alternate framing. there's nothing "wrong" with the approach you have here. i think it would be more dramatic from a lower angle or if the door was somehow less of the centerpiece, since it's not as interesting as its surroundings. straight-on, centered shots just have a documental feeling, to me. i am being overly critical but hopefully you just take away the different concepts brought up. in fact, that's probably all anyone should ever do.

| | | I don't mind the straight-on angle so much, as long as you fix the barrel distortion - those bowed sides are killing me. If you're going to shoot it straight on, just make sure it's perfectly straight, including the distortion. Try the Lens Correction filter (if you use photoshop). I think there's a free one for pc, called PT Lens or something like that, which would also fix that minor problem nicely. And yes, it's a touch blue (blue tint in a reddish-brown door is a dead giveaway) and a bit oversharpened. But the actual photo I quite like.

| | | It's a door. I like doors! I'm not sure it's art, though.
