how about a chat room? I think it would be kind of neat to talk to people in "real" time.

sorry if this has been brought up in the past...

There already is a UER chatroom. There was a link to it in some thread or other back in the day. Av'll post the link I'm sure once he read this, (or whoever else happens to have it).

EDIT: Found it myself... http://www.uer.ca/chat/

Anyone ever use it? I've hung out there now and then and never seen anyone. There used to be an IRC chat and some other UE related chat rooms a while back, but they never got much use.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

why not have an irc channel or something?

You shake my hand, say “pleased to meet you.” Look me in the eye, I don’t believe you. TUI, as long as I’m still alive. I live despite you. Realize I’m not one of your kind, I’m nothing like you.

That's been done before too. It always sounds like a good idea, but once everyone gets in there, there's really not much to talk about. That's the beauty of forums; People can talk slowly and compose what they're saying, providing a much nicer finished product to read instead of having to wade through a bunch of gibberish and pointless ascii art.

Besides, I'd rather be crawling through tunnels than sitting at a computer and talking about it any day. In fact, I'm off across campus to check out some new stuff right now.

Yeah, my thing with chatrooms, is that they never get used. I am on other forums that have chatrooms and try and set a time every week to chat and the ones that do show up all the time act like they are gods and then those of us that unplug from the net and spend romantic nights with our girlfriends, shave our heads, feed our cats tuna, and do other real life tasks, feel unwelcome and never show up and then the whole damn thing goes under. It's ends up ruined by egos.
Forums on the other hand allow us to start a discussion, then the next day if anyone cares to respond, it is continued on. Chatrooms spring this problem of it not being archived or remembered. People will say something and then you have to go back to what they said when you are responding. The forum allows us to reread and rethink things.
Chatrooms are good for teenagers, bi-sexual men, BattleTech Fans, Middle-Aged people who rediscover their youth on the internet and chat about VW microbuses, Fat People, Young star crossed lovers who don't know about phones, Buffy Fans, N'sync fans, baseball fans, fans of sexual torture with ceiling fans, and well I guess just fans. Not that I don't believe those people benifit from chatrooms, but UE is a Forum type thing. Hell I will throw a Chatsite up on my webpage soon and monitor it, if it gets used, I'll leave it, if not I will crush it with my very fingers. That way I can be god and be the ego that ruins it, and I don't even have to get on the damn thing.

Well, I could keep going, I mean I am in a really chatty mood right now, damn maybe a chatroom isn't such a bad Idea afterall.
