| | | I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here and say that NXcng was joking... or at least, I hope he was. Hopefully no one would -really- run around with a blade under a coat when the possibility of being busted for 1) trespassing and 2) possession of a concealed weapon, and 3) whatever they can get you for for that blade being over 6"....
For the record though, this is usually how I talk as well. Lots of time in chat rooms + role playing == learning how to type like you talk. footsteps light, flashlights bright -~ DT

| | | didnt get to read the whole thread but.... we usualy dont have too much non leathal defence with us. Alot of the people I used to go with were crazy anyway and usualy had a few knifes box cutters ect on them all the time anyway. We always have the M9 knife (for protection and other usues like fence cutting) A few big mag lights, pepper spray and pretty much everyone i went with could kill someone with their bare hands if nessary. I saw that some of you were saying that all this is just paryoned...i have had experiends to say diffrent. Read my introduction post to hear about a few of them. | | | Sweet! now I don't have to kill my attackers, I can just burn out their retinas and leave them blind for life!
On martialarts site From the phasers of "Star Trek" to the light sabers of "Star Wars", people have dreamed of magical weapons that would stop an enemy without touching them.
|
Yeah, that's called a gun... I mean sure, phasers had stun settings, but it's essentially a gun, and a lightsaber is basically just a really sharp sword with a soundtrack. If you want to carry a gun but not kill people you could use rubber bullets (beanbag shotgun rounds are actually just as effective and less dangerous than rubber bullets to the person you're shooting), or tranquilizer darts or something. I know the cops aren't supposed to use tranquilizers since people could have bad reactions to them, I'm surprised star trek never had a scenario where someone died from an alergic reaction to being stunned Sorry, got way off topic there. I wouldn't carry a gun with nonlethal rounds, it's just inviting too much trouble. In the very few cases where I would want to carry a gun UEing, it would be a real one with real bullets. For nonlethal defense I rely on my basic Judo skills, my flashlight or tripod, or whatever else is at hand (I sometimes carry a large pocketknife, which depending on how you use it can be nonlethal or at least a deterrent). I haven't actually had to defend myself against any humans while exploring, since we don't have much of a junkie/nut/criminal problem here. For normal homeless or insane people (I meet a lot while dumpster diving) I find that a strong, confident attitude and alert behavior is enough to let them know I'm not someone to mess with.

| | | A sword would be a really fucking horrible weapon to bring in a lot of cases, especially UEing when large, heavy, unweildy objects could be a HUGE liability. You don't want to be in a narrow hallway and get your sword stuck on a wall. If we need to, we just pick up some old pipes or table legs in the building. Other than that we've usually got a big maglight and even a knife or two(unless we figure there's a big risk of cops). Stunguns require you to get close. For that kind of money you might as well go for a knife or a big flashlight and use the rest for some useful gear like boots or a respirator. Pepper spray might not be the best in enclosed situations, and with enough adrenaline you CAN shrug off the effects, I've done it. When you're talking about "crazed junkies", they probably can too. ASP batons are legal in canada, they sell them (or at least cheap knockoffs) everywhere around here. I used to have one...handy little things, probably worth picking one up at some point.

Yeah... I know who you're talkin 'bout. Tuvok, from Star Trek Voyager. Also made brief appearances in DS9 and one of the movies, if memory serves. Lets see... ways to kill people with my bare hands... Well, 14 relatively simple ways... about 9 others that involve nerves and causing unconsciousness... Give me a weapon of just about any sort and you can potentially double that number. footsteps light, flashlights -~ DT

I can kill a man by staring at over 15 places on his body and I'm a member of a special branch of the military that is so secret that I'm the only one who knows it exists. I'm also 12 years old.
