I watched "Bowling for Columbine" last night and this thread is making me sick. Ya'll are all way too fucking paranoid. I've had run-ins while exploring, and the people are either cool-as-shit or I get spooked and run off before it gets to the point where I have to become Billy Badass.

The homeless are harmless 99.99999% of the time and if you run into a gang or something, your gonna be outnumbered and under armed so why even bother?

Edit: ASPs aka whip-sticks are also illegal in Texas.

On a related note, I just watched the Matrix within the past few months, and guns kick ass. If I see a hobo, I'm gonna kill him before he becomes an agent.

The only thing that makes me concerned is that some punk who might be around in an abandoned building might just be there to smash things and generally be a retard UNTILL he sees my expensive digital camera and he decides he wants it to pay for his drug of choice.

I know that pepper spray only works if you don't get surprised by an attacker and you have it in your hand before they get close but it makes me feel more comfortable about any unexpected situation especially when I'm by myself. Also, I don't want to have to worry about any legal situations that might come with killing someone in self-defense because we *are* trespassing usually anyways.

What I carry is actually a small spray can of Military CS Tear Gas / Orthochlorbenzalmalononitrile. For some reason they weighed the bottle in grams rather than ounces but it says 14 grams – pretty small. I don’t know much about the difference between pepper and CS except that I think CS can hurt them for longer and you don’t have to hit them dead on.

I thought even the US military used metric almost exclusively.

Anyway, using Pepper Spray/CS/whatever in an enclosed area isn't something that I'd like to do, so I'm not sure if that's the best thing to use unless you happen to need it when you're outside whatever it is you're about to explore.

Personally, I don't think I'd want to bring anything with me that's too obviously a weapon. You could at least show a non-violent use for a Maglite, but a billy club or taser would be harder to explain away to the cop who's just busted you.

speaking from first hand experience, the US military uses both.
and in about the least rational mix possible.

most weights are still pounds and ounces, but other things are a mixture of ?english? and metric.

CS irritates the mucous membranes, so it hurts your eyes, and if you are breathing, it makes you cough and gives you a runny nose. some people arent affected by it. dont know about a spray-version though.

and i agree with Noah Vale to a lesser extent. its rare that anyone runs into someone in their explorations, and i dont think ive read any posts yet about any violent conflicts while ueing. not that it doesnt hurt to be prepared, but i dont think the risk is that high, and a quick exit(or to avoid them in the firstplace if you know they are there) may be the best solution.

also, if you do get caught by the police, it probabally wont look good to have a weapon on you.

id suggest getting in shape, and taking up a martial art, and being aware of improvised weapons(like the tripod mentioned above)

yogurt and beer. mmmm......

If you're seriously worried about being confronted by someone in a site, take up a form of martial art (one that uses a lot of footwork, preferably - legs are generally longer and more deadly than arms).

Weapon-wise, either improvise something at the site, as has been suggested, or use the also-mentioned ASP. A lot of people get away with carrying them because they don't have the full telescoping ones, they've only got the dual-section ones... those can be explained away as tools for <insert appropriate job here>. Sounds stupid, I know, but it does seem to work.

Also, if you're experienced with them, don't go for a full-sized one, go for just the short little 8 or 9' long section and use it strictly on pressure points. This serves a few purposes. 1: You can explain it away as a keychain or something otherwise harmless. 2: If it gets taken away, the schmuck who takes it probably won't know how to use it, so he'll chuck it, giving you additional time to react. 3: It doesn't look threatening to have a little round piece of metal in your hands... until you have it shoved forcibly into the side of their neck whilst their arm is bent up in an oh-so-comfortable hammer lock... they generally don't say much at that point.

Screw pepper spray, just smash the offender in the face with your flashlight. It's probably some crazed junkie anyway so they won't press charges. Just get out of there in a hurry so they don't remember your face.

*sigh*
from what I know of you from your posts, I can just see you doing that to the 'offender-junkie-nonhuman' who's 'home' you're wandering through when he asks you for a light or something.

That's not what I said. Some people wandering around abandoned places drink alchohol so I would assume some (not all) of them also do drugs. You can't tell me that every single person that visits an abandoned place just wants to be nice to you. And by punks I did not mean Oi! Oi! Oi! punks, lots of my friends are punks. By punks I meant vandals/criminals etc.

Jolt, that's not what I mean at all. If a situation that endangers my life comes up that's when I'll use force, of course I'm not going to stumble upon some guy living in a building and hit him. Why do you think the thread has the word DEFENSE in it? Don't make stupid assumptions and stop acting like you eat coal and shit diamonds, you aren't that great.

True, I'm sure that if the use of body language was involved in forums, Jolt would have known that I didn't mean what he thought. The whole problem is that all you can see is words and if you don't explain yourself well enough people will get the wrong idea. It's inevitable and understandable. Besides, I don't know why I chose the word 'punk' as I never use it anyways. Oh well.

Hahah im sure most of you talk NOTHING how you post, as for self defeince i like to wear a trench coat and have a ninja sword so i can feel like neo walking around at night. Ninja swords can be just with 1 hand or 2 hand but you have to be a skilled ninja to weild it properly.

The General Slash,
The General slash was invented by the first ninjas.
Useing your alpha hand grip the sword and hold it out infront of you firmly held, use a kicking stance for foot work. Point the blade at a slight angle twards the oppents face, when they make movement loosen your wrist and reach up behind your head then focuse all your energy to your arm and slash side ways at face, this will slay most any foe or at least render them harmless.

This is perferably the tactic i use when a enemey troop sees me.

PS- I want to be you when I grow up.

>_< Mochi, yes, I really talk like this in real life, now STFU.

NXcng, it's people like you that make the rest of us want to carry self-defense equipment. When the CHUD finally get you, they're going to smack their bloody lips, look at each other and say "Huh. Tastes like ninja", which just goes to show how stupid CHUD are.
