Sadly, I didn't get to see the place before the redevelopment was well under way.

Nice page(s), very informative. Really called at the train-geek in me.

"the locoshop was transformed into offices and into a Loblaws supermarket"; that's just sad.

It all kind of went down hill from there.

Well, they did a rather good job with the Loblaws, they kept the exterior brickwork with the big arches, its not that bad.

At least its not condos like they did the rest of the land.

Yah, you're right. That's a good point; it could be worse. It could have been condos, or torn down altogether.

It all kind of went down hill from there.

And while you are picking your fruit and salad at that Loblaws, you can take a look at the big bridge crane over you.

Yo SPEK you had the chance to explore the Angus Shops when they were abandoned right? Or it's someone else?? I'm not sure who that was but I think I remember it was you.

I never took a look inside at the time, there was patrol and train yard activity but the yard was part of my biking fun. I have a couple photos of the transformation of the site and only one known of the yard era.

The loco shop look in better condition then now.

They left the crane in place? Very nice. Okay, that earns points.

It all kind of went down hill from there.

Mapman, thanks for posting the link to the geocities site. An impressive site, with a lot of history that I didn't know.

"You're a catastrophe... On your watch we've lost almost all of our allies, the budget surplus, four airliners, two trade centers, a piece of the Pentagon and the city of New Orleans. Maybe your just not lucky. I'm not saying you don't love this country. I'm just wondering how much worse it could be if you were on the other side. Yes, God does speak to you. Damn so many yard closed in montreal its insane. I see so many abandoned tracks and back shops. Companies are stoping to use freights, while the gouverment is giving subventions to companies to use freights for the kyoto protocol. Basicly geting rid of trains is a urban mentality.

Now everything is concentrated in the 2 main yard: cote-st-luc shop CP and taschereau CN, located at the same place. Everything is closing down, I wonder if in a few years we'll see those 2 closing down?

Now also angus shop got houses builded over it. I remember my freind & I driving around there, the streets are are angus railroading related names. We'll if he never told me I wouldnt tell.

but both cn and cp are carrying record quantities of freight, remeber all these yards were required to handle the specialized cars required for freight, now the majority of cars are well cars that carry containers. containerized freight has been a boon the the railways since they no longer have to maintain these huge fleets of railcars that sat in the yards in the past. ALso locomotive leasing being what it is its not in the railroads best interest to squeeze the last bit of life out of them like they did in the past, so engine service facilities are also falling by the wayside, CN and CP are not going anywhere the container is what saved the railroads. FOr CN and CP (cps container yard is in the lachine industrial park not the cote st luc yard) they like containers because thier clients bring the freight to the yard and its shipped from there, in the old days a box car was spotted on a siding for a client. THe lasalle sub for example, there were industrial condos on jean brillon that had boxcar docks, 1 train every 2 weeks to service the place, it didnt make sense to maintain those tracks!
