I've heard some good things about this picture and I'd like to hear your opinions.

but you really need to see the high rez so I guess I'll upload it...

I know it's not great but to me it captures the beauty of the Riverside Drive strip at night.

Either my monitor is much poorer quality than I thought, or your pic is a big load of black with a strip of street lights and a few vague reflections? Not a fan! There is just too much black and not enough picture! May be try different exposure settings for similar pics in future?

I can't see anything identifiable, other than the water, in that image. You should do long exposures of three to four minutes using a remote cable release or a timer, if possible, with no flash, in order to bring out detail in the rest of the landscape and to show the boundaries of the river. This would also heighten the details of the reflections and extend them, making them more pleasant to the average eye or those who can't see worth shit, like me

This monitor is definitely not the best, but I cannot see a damn thing. Need a way way WAY longer exposure.

I have a good monitor thats calibrated for image work....I cant see much besides some lights and a few reflections.
Do you by chance have access to a histogram function on your camera or in a photo editing suite? Take a look at your image with that or start using a histogram and it will help you out a lot.
I notice you have some hot pixels on the lower left side of the image too. Try looking at some noise reduction software and see if that helps too.
I think if you took a much longer exposure you would get a better picture but your on the right track.

Yeah my camera has a max of 2 second exposure time sadly.

I dont have a great cam but I just love that picture. It reminds me of someone far away from the glitz and glamour of the city out in the inky darkness.

Thanks for the first support cringe

I'd say thats not a bad shot, especially for a less sophisticated camera. You can do a ton of work in post processing, with something such as Photoshop. I made one adjustment to the levels, and you can see the difference. Might be interesting for you to play with and practice. That being said, I suck as a photographer! E

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Yah... I don't know how you managed to do it Jonsered but that photoshop made my eyes bleed a little.

Your monitor *might* be too dark.

Oh God... No offense but yeah... Please, it wasnt that good in the first place. I just thought it would make some people admire the rivers more but wow... It looks like a nuclear blast in each light... Wow....

I think my nose is bleeding for some reason.

I think if you cropped it and left only the area with the reflection it would look better.

But you'd probably need a higher megapixel camera to crop it that much and still have a decent sized image.
