#3 is f'ing amazing, perfect. All three have very strong compositions, but this one stands way out for its sublime simplicity and clear focal point.

Strong compositions? lol

I dont see what is so amazing about them maybe I just dont get it.
#1 looks like a vacation at the beach photo
#3 Its a watertower, with crap on the bottom corner, low cloud contrast(and overall) and darkening on the corners.

1 and 3 arent really in need of any critique, #2 is a worthy photo, I like how it shows alot of different aspects of UE(tags in the background, decomposition and dirtiness), and the angle of the shot is nice. Im picky with the DoF but this one gets my thumbs up on it and the contrast is also nice. Only improvement I can put a finger on is maybe a bit of framing adjustment, but then again maybe not.

Yeah. 1 and 3 are more or less experiments in minimalist composition. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I just like the idea of extracting simplicity out of the chaos and confusion of our modern world.

The following sentence is false. The preceding sentence is true.

The first one has nice colours, but the waterscape is too unfocused. If there were something else more prominent, then it might be more interesting.

The second is interesting, but not by itself. In a series mapping out an exploration it'd be very appropriate; however, without anything else, it's just sort of "blah". It is well composed though and I like the slightly off balance angle.

Third is awesome. The only recommendation for that would be to crop out the distractions in the bottom corners (what dobi mentioned already). I'd prefer if the sky were also a bit smaller, but if you cropped the top it'd be missing the blue swirls that are hidden beneath the clouds. If only you could control the sky so it were lower in the frame. ;)

one general rule of landscape shots is to not put the horizon in the middle. Remember, use the rule of thirds - and your shots will ooze with interest. Number two is really the best one - the others look a bit snapshot like.

Keep shootin'

General rules are stupid. I've seen plenty of pictures with a centred horizon that are entirely awesome.

What if he framed it by having the sky take up only the top third of the shot, showing more of that awesome water? The sky really isn't as interesting as the water in this case. I whole-heartedly agree that general rules are meant to be broken, however they exist for a reason. I have seen many a rule broken that has produced a great looking shot, but let's face it in this case more of the contrasting waves of water may make for a more interesting scene. Don't just break rules for the sake of breaking rules, give a reason why these support your theory.

In this case I think the subject matter is uninteresting. Mada said he was going for a minimalist look. Fair enough. But I still feel there'd be no central focus, even if it was framed differently.
