You got a problem bro?
| | range finder? < on 9/20/2003 1:49 PM >
| | | where can i find a cheap but reliable range finder (such as the ones used in golf) but with either night vision or IR. Because i have this compound that i am dying (sp?) to explore. It is an active Veterans Hospital. It may not seem exciting, but it has a lot of underground tunnels, and it has a power plant, etc. I've been in one of the tunnels before, and let me tell you they were scary to me at the time, because i hadnt been on too many missions yet (this is, of course, many, many years back). But, back to the topic. I'd like to see the distance of security personnel from any given location.

| | | at one time, not sure if they still have one, but my local radio shack had an electronic range finder. the only thing is, it had a range limit, say 20 feet, and it couldn't read the distance anymore. but if you want something that will give you distance from far away, then you'll probably have to shell out some dough. *edit- i found one here. | | | What are you going to be using the range finder for? Would it be below ground abover ground? If your above ground there are some neat tricks to mesure distance by your fingers thumbs etc. You can be accuret up to a few yards or so. I left my notes at home so the tricks arent easily avaliable for 4 months or so. However they can be found in survival books etc.

| | | i'm using it for above ground, for identifying the the locations of security personnel, so i don't get caught. sometimes i go to sites with neighborhood watch, etc, so i want to know the distance from me to them. That way, i know how much time i have either to 1)hide or 2) escape.

| | | Sounds interesting. You can also pop off some firecrackers (after finding a apropriate hiding place) and seeing how long it takes for them to respond.

i never heard of someone setting off some fireworks, but that is a unigue (sp?) idea. I will probably do that on my mission after this one.

| | | Another trick would be checking out the site where the USGS Maps are on here. I forget where. Anyways they give latitude longitude. There you could just go from building to building with a ruler. Or you could just us lat lon and some math.
