There are a hell of a lot of good photographers on this site, but I think a bunch of them will be scared to post their stuff in here because they won't want to hear the mean critiques.

Me, i'm a horrible photographer, so I've got no problem being told I didn't use the right aperture or should have used a fish eye lense or some fish net stocking or whatever the hell. I'm not a photographer, I just take pictures while i'm exploring as a secondary aspect.

If they suck, oh well, if there's some useful comments great, maybe i'll learn something, or maybe I won't understand a damn thing, either way, here's some to diss. No editing has been done after they were uploaded, except resizing.

Aperture, depth of field, contrast, emulsion, color temperature, daguerrotype!

Some pretty good ones and some bla. Im liking the one with the stairs and the hallway with the blue lights. Some of them have pretty cool perspectives and others are kinda bland. Generally pretty good photos in my opinion discluding the first two.

(Did you UE a bowling alley? #6 and #9 jk)

6 is actually in between 2 escalators at a mall being demolished.
9 is not bowling pins, it's artillery shells.

The hall with the blue lights, is just the natural light reflecting off different colored walls in an asylum...

#1-#4
Nothing really stands out that is highlighted, but it is excellent in that it shows the landscape in detail, which is a nice change.

#5
I enjoy the range of colors. Reminds me of one I took at Waverly Hills TB

#6
What are the white stringy objects?

#7
I like the composition with the unique angle and the vibrant and saturated colors!

#8
Good composition showing the empty space of the room, the desolation very well.

#9
I love this shot a lot. Great colors, unique at that, and very different.

Good job!

Most pics are ok, or even nice, but they don't have anything special. They lack that little 'spicy' thing.

#7 and #9 make me happier than I've been in weeks. Color is good.

I know nothing about photography, but I think this is ridiculously impressive, considering you claim to know nothing about photography as well.

What are the white stringy objects?

The stringy things are the rooftop t-bar pieces that normally support the roof panels, with the demolition they were all broken apart and hanging down all over (That area was formerly a large store in the mall). I thought shooting from centre of the escalator looking up at an angle would give a unique perspective.

Hey Jester,

I'm going to be the contrarian and say that pic #2 is my personal favorite.. it gives the mood of the abandonment, and a sense of the time with the calcification.. It also makes me wish i had been there with you walking up those steps... inspiration is one of the best things photography can do for the mind. It looks like it is exposed to sea air? for 50 years? probably one of the military explorations?

It seems you've just been looking with your eyes closed.

I like these pics Jester. Here's my 'critique'

Pics 1-3 show a very nice use of texture.
Pics 4-6 &8 Good sense of abandonment especially with the lonely padlock in #4
Pics 7&9 are a great job on the perspective. The only way I was able to say the objects in #9 were not pins was from the tops.

Overall, nice set of pics.

Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back.

Personally, I think the biggest thing you can do to improve is just some work on your framing. Some of them focus on the subject pretty well, some don't, but the framing on most of them just seems a little off.

Which ones do you think the framing was good on, and which ones were bad ?

Now you're making me think, ughhh.

The framing on the first one is just awkward. It might just be the subject matter being hard to frame though.

The second one is not bad, but a bit crooked and I feel like it should either be zoomed in or out a little.

The third is one of the better ones, but I would have pulled the shot down a bit so the larger pipe was fully in the fame and maybe zoomed in just a tad to make it larger.

The fourth should either be turned so the lock and break in the floor break up the picture a little (counter clockwise 15 degrees maybe?) or zoomed in so the lock is more of a detailed focus. Both 3 and 4 could use more contrast, because they are black and white.

The fifth would be better if the door to the left were closed (or you could move ahead or to the right to avoid it. It would be good if the first door was to the right some and the blue door was where the wall before it is now. This would help lead you down the corridor some and also allow the effect of light and dark spaces caused by light coming in from the doors to be realised.

Six throws me a bit, mostly, because it's kind of dark. Turning the camera down a bit would help give the lower subject more emphasis.

I would have turned the camera to the left a little on seven. This would put the stairs in a better position and filled up the boring gap in the upper lefthand corner.

I think the eighth is decent. A little lower perspective and getting the top bit of the door in might help a little. Unfortunately the lens distortion hurts a bit, but not much can be done about that. If there was room to back up and zoom in a little you might have minimised that.

I would go either a touch to the right on the artillery shells and make everything symmetrical or to the left and focus on the center and left rows with the right one just at the edge of the frame.

Bear in mind that I'm not an amazing photographer. I could use serious critiquing myself, but those are the framing changes I would have liked to make.

I rather enjoyed #6, 7 and 9 in particular. Honest to goodness, though, the subject of the last picture really is reminiscent of Mexican drums It made me happy. Never mind their actual purpose.
