| | Pictures of the Rover plant... in a mainstream UK paper! < on 11/16/2005 10:56 PM >
| | | Well dang me, the Telegraph online has photos of the now-vacant Rover plant up. You can see them at: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ You may have to register, but it's free. Go to the link on the lower right labeled Rover's Broken Dreams. The picture credits appear to be a person/organisation called RADDOGEXTREME/OXYGEN THIEF. Is that someone on these boards? Pretty cool pictures, but hugely ironic that they are appearing in such a mainstream publication. Cheers Dennis

| | | Not sure if they're on these boards? I don't think so? They run their own forum, one of them does, Oxygen Thief. They had a massive response to the Rover thread on their forum, which featured pics of their exploration. The interest was mostly from car enthusiasts who linked to the thread from automotive related forums. I guess nobody saw that coming? Quite an unprecedented response to an interesting industrial location, but ultimately no more interesting than many similar others. It seems to be the automotive fraternity that's drawn the media attention? There appears to be no link back to their forum or them as individuals on the Telegraph site, nor any mention of UE as such. | | | The telegraph journalist stole those pictures from the site (28dayslater.co.uk)where they were posted, without asking permission. The photos have also been published in the UK edition of this month's Auto Express, but they asked permission, at least.

| | | Hi everyone. Myself and fellow explorer raddog from www.28dayslater.co.uk gained access to the rover factory and took those pictures. We just posted them on the forum as we would any other location. The response has been amazing - it has had over 80,000 views to date. Recently we have done bigger better sites (probably) but this one quickly spread through the auto forums and further. The UK weekly 'autoexpress' kindly asked permission, but the telegraph didn't bother. At least they credited the pictures to us.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

| | | A pretty awesome location, even more fascinating since my own car was built there. I wonder if anything will ever be built there again, since the land underneath the factory was sold and MG-R's new owners might not be interested in taking it on.

| | | The thread which lead to this press exposure has recently been removed from the forum in question and replaced with a locked thread detailing reasons for its removal. Reason being the receipt of a letter by the forum Admin from the MG Rover Group insisting on removal of all company premises images and requesting all name and address details for those people who made the images available. LOL! Because forum Admin hold the full and true names, addresses and telephone numbers for all their members don't they! http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=208 -- Jonathon Doe --
