Abandoned Pools/Park in Haltom City (Suburb of Fort Worth)

Since I am not a full member, I can not check this out if it even exists in the database, but my friend about a year ago took some pictures of an abandoned public pools, and I found the park it was in, but not the pools. I looked all over the place and I could not find it. I found some sad pieces of what looked like what might have been a pool shell in an area that had been cleared and bulldozed, so I worry that it might have been filled in. However, my friend said they were really well hidden, so I dunno... Has anyone ever been there, or know what I am talking about?

Get the street address and check out the location on http://dfwmaps.com with the 2005 aerial photos option on.
See what you can find.

Wow, that site is awesome Barry, thanks for the URL. Unfortunately, the pools are indeed gone. I compared the 2003 and 2005 aerial photos. Also, I found that the steel plant I thought was abandoned, is not Go figure. Thanks for everything anyways Barry.

Sure!
I was told about that site by other UE's from this site. I'm a HUGE fan of Google Earth
http://earth.google.com/
but the database, at least around here, is pretty old. The Bronco Bowl is still there and Nokia Live is still being constructed. I still use it for our sort of research but then check my findings on dfwmaps. Too bad about the swimming pools but there's still a lot available if you look for it.

I'm a blatant waste of time and resources.

Yeah I use Google Earth too, but I knew that it was pretty old, which is why I did not bother looking for it there. Thanks again.

It's called Barbrook park and I've kicked around there several times only to be greatly saddened earlier this year when I found out that the two pools and a few of the structures had been totally removed. if you go over to the East side of the park, though, you will find the old picnic grounds are still there complete with tables and BBQ pits. That's about all that's still there. Sorry...

Yeah, that is all I found sad looking picnic tables, and foundations. Thanks for the info about it though. Were you kicked out of it when it was open, or already closed? If you got kicked out after it was closed, how? I had no problems. I climbed over someones fence, rather than try and squeeze through the not so well locked gate.

Actually I said I kicked around there as in explored the area not got kicked out. I just went through the not so well locked front gate.

The pool in White Settlement is abandoned, apparently. Sad, because I used to swim there all the time as a kid. Last time I went by it was looking pretty pathetic.

I grew up in Haltom City and went to this Pool for years and it was one of the places I went several years agao when I gor into really photographing places I explored. I got some good shots but kept meaning to go back. I finally went back this past summer and yes it's all be filled in and graded over. The pool struggled for a while after the big wave pool places opened and the original family who owned, I cant remember thier name at moment, sold it. From what I understand they never maintained it well and a few years after they had bought it a child drowned and no one realized it until they got ready to leave. Apparently the water was so murkey you couldnt really see the bottom of the pool. The lawsuits drove the place to bankruptcy, then tax bills piled up and others got involved and the ownership got to be a mess. When I went and shot the park a few years back the people I talked with said the city was looking at taking it and filling it all in doing some maintenance/Building park type stuff there so that may be whats going on. Heres a couple of shots from my trip- there, all I have with me, there part my screensaver pics ....

Thanks guys for the info. I used to go to Barbrook all the time in the late 60's-late 70's. In the early 80's it was sold and renamed "Barnacle Bill's"...a day care group went there and at the end of the day, after they already returned realized they were missing a child. This is hard to believe, but it really happened...The child's parents actually had to get divers who found their child at the bottom of the pool that night. The water was so green nobody knew he was there. That was the beginning of the end.
