| | | Hello everybody!!! Awesome Site... I have some pics of the old General Tire Plant here in Waco that shuttered around 1986. I'm new to digital photography, so I'm not quite sure how to compress these pics down to 100kb or less to post here. Any suggestions????

| | | Your computer should have some sort of photo processing program on it. With most of them, you can change the size of the pic in "image size", but on some others, you don't get the opportunity until you hit "save" or "save as". I want to see the pics. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have problems downsizing them.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

| | | Thanks for the help Jonsered. A little history on this place.... Built in 1944, closed in 1986. General Tire used as a warehouse until about 1990. Wal Mart still uses a small portion of the warehouse at the very back of the campus. This building encompasses over 2,000,000 sf under one roof. Had its own water supply and electrical grid, warehouse has gates for 20 railcars outside and 15 inside. There seem to be many ways to gain entry into this bldg, but my knees will not allow me to. If anyone wants site location, please let me know. I would love to see the inside of this behemoth. I have more pics available if anyone is interested.

| | | Sweet. I saw this place this summer and wanted to look at it, but the 'rents weren't down for stopping. Rev, this is that place I was telling you about.

| | | Just one tip you may already know about on compressing the pics... always make a copy of your originals and keep it separate. Once you compress those pics, or alter and save them, unless you've made a copy, your originals are forever gone. I always put my originals on a CD and then compress the ones on the hard drive, saves space on the drive as well.

| | | No, I'm a little nervous to go in by myself. Not a great part of town, and my knee is shot, so I can't run if I need to. If anyone wants to go, I would be happy to provide lookout service......

I understand, I have no cartilage in one knee and arthritis in the other! Waco has to have some good spots maybe I'll get down there soon. [last edit 10/10/2005 5:52 PM by Explorer Zero - edited 1 times]

| | | Ha! I knew there was something worth exploring in Waco. I don't remember you mentioning this place Noah. I am all for checking it out though. Especially since it's not really that far away. I still need to get up to Dallas again soon though. I'll be sure to mark this one for future exploration.

| | | Hey....i'm a pseudo-lurker....i posted here a few times a couple of years ago under the handle snake23. Anyway, I've explored that place a few times (even climbed the water tower!) and it's a really interesting, photogenic place. Tons of crazy additions, arcane machines, old engineering workrooms, there's even a creepy old medical office with a creepy old examination chair/table in it. Are you a baylor kid too? We should meet up sometime. Send me a PM and we can hookup on facebook haha. Also, if anybody from around here wants to take an expedition, i'd be more than willing to take people out there..... I've been UE'ing for about 5 years now, but I have trouble finding people around here who enjoy the UE as I do. (:
