Nah. Chico.

Ohh.

I was going to feel like a giant douche if it was the one in the buttes.

I lived in Loma rica for 6 months last year, and I would try almost everyday to find it on google maps etc.

Beale AFB in Marysville had three Titan ICBM annexes, located in/near Chico, Sutter Buttes, & Lincoln built in about 1960, and then deactivated in 1965.

If you've ever been inside a Titan I site & seen how massive they are, it almost makes you sick to think how much $$ they spent on sites that were operational for less than 5 full years, but in the long run, the Minuteman missile system was a lot more cost-effective.

Anyway, the Chico site is the one that's thought to be shown in the classic movie 'A Gathering of Eagles.'

Anyone planning on conquering the Chico site should watch that move on DVD, make a screen print of the famous scene of a low-flying B-52 passing by the raised missiles, & then try to duplicate that scenery today!

I've been to the Sutter Buttes (aka Live Oak) site, which was known as 1B or 851-B (851st Strategic Missile Squadron). There's a locked gate about a half mile back from the site, and I opted not to hop the fence, especially since i'd just talked with a guy that lives on the access road. In the past few years, the Army Corps of Engineers has been there to do an environmetal study (groundwater contamination, etc.) they went inside. Apparently it's pretty nasty, due to the way the contractors scrapped the site, & then decades worth of water seepage, etc. Titan I sites didn't have a whole heck of a lot topside, so unless you've got SCBA gear & are planning on trying to get inside, it might not be worth the trip. The owner just seems to use the property for occasional cattle grazing. There's an old AT&T microwave relay station nearby (amongst the orchards, if I recall right, NOT up on the Butte) that might be worth investigating too.

I *do* have a line on the owener (as of 3 years ago...) of the property, & could try secure permission for a visit. As a missile site afficionado, I'm always happy to check a site off my list & leave a little DNA behind, even if it was just a topside visit.

851-A is now a Placer County Roads Dept yard, with NT signs up, but perhaps a polite phone call to the right person there will allow for a walk on the grounds at a time of their convenience.

851-C near Chico is thought to be fairly intact.

Sorry, there never was a Nike missile site up near Sutter Buttes. Closest Nikes would have been the ones around Travis AFB.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Living near Beale was alot of fun. I saw tons of cool stuff fly over my house.

I almost wrecked my car the first time I saw a U-2 in the fog.

Awesome.

Is the at&t site a long lines system?

I remember reading some .pdf that said it was flooded. The pdf said it was a nike site. lol

I'm not saying you're wrong at all. All of my information sucks about what's out there.

And just because I like being a nerd and saving these screenshots in my official URBEX scouting folder, here is the third site mentioned by ooligan.

Ooligan may have been right about A Gathering of Eagles being filmed at the Chico site, but from all accounts that I could teel, it was in fact filmed at this site, the Lincoln site.

And, just for reference, this is the general layout of the Titan sites. Again, I'm a UE nerd.

Goddamnit!!! /me shakes fist in the air.

Can you link me to where that is. Pm or whatever.

And I know you weren't trying to make me look like a douche. I just feel like one because when I was up there I spent so much time online looking for it, and asking people about it.

Ohh well, such is life.

By the way, let's all pool together our moneys. 1.2 million -- all we have to do is sell the surplus pot from Almaden to buy this gem:

Titan I Site

Denver, CO. 210 total acres. Very rare - 1 of only 18 built. Massive 45,000 + sq. ft. of underground floor-space; high chain-link fence around central complex; 2 high capacity deep wells in power dome; 3 missile silos all interconnected by ½ miles of tunnels. Mountain views, just 20 minutes from metropolitan area and international airport. Large capacity elevator intact, to be reconditioned. Under new ownership, massive clean-up and refurbishment underway. Many unique possibilities for commercial or private usage. Serious and capable buyers only .

Video $20
PRICE REDUCED: $1,295,000.00

Wow! Just what I've always wanted!! An underground home!

On a somewhat more serious side, how safe is it really, and does this guy really think that he's going to sell these things to the public? Are families really going to want to live in them?

But I love the pics, and I never knew really what a Nike Silo was until now. I know what the Nike sites are in the bay area, but I guess that these are totally different.

Ummm... well, there's always the lottery or your local casino to try your luck at. But as far as me moving into one of those, no thanks. I'd rather spend my days and nights in a nice cabin in the woods, and step three feet out the front of my door and smell the fresh outdoor air. Not the stuffy, rusty air in a lead pipe connected to an unknown dome, down the dirt road.

If you don't mind living somewhere in the midwest on (or should I say "under") a prarie far away from everything and everyone, then it's the perfect place. There's probably a lot people out there who are still terrified of a nuclear war and think that one could happen any day now. They can all band together and pool their money and buy it and live there. Kind of like the people in the Mad Max movies who banded together after a nuclear holocaust. LOL

Personally, I'd buy it cuz I'm sick of living in crowded lil' Bermuda, where you fart too loud and the neighors complain.

I'd really love to turn one into a massive recording and video production complex - the possibilities are astounding.

Ah, a man can dream...

Ya, but you have steak and beans for dinner, fart later, and then EVERYONE will want to leave due to the problem you originally had.

Can't solve anything, can we?
