| | | Very Busy weekend of exploration < on 9/19/2005 1:50 AM >
| | | I was working on the very far westside of Ft. Worth this weekend so I decided to do some exploring starting with an old school mentioned by White winged dove that I posted a reply to. Nice little school but in really bad shape. All of these I'll post some more pics later on each one after processing them so for now just a drive out west. You can figure out where they are as most I think everyone will know. First was an old neighborhood thats abandoned now. This is the neighborhood I first remember living in when I was 5.
Stopped at an old train depot on my way to the school I mentioned ...
Next on the list was a place I wasnt sure was closed or not. It's still somewhat operational, would like to go back when I have more time.
Then was on down the road to someplace I have wanted to go for years. Hope to back, I went in and pretty much went straight up thinking I would do the lower level on my way out, Unfortunately as I got to the first floor I heard a group of people and they were talking the history of the place so I assume the lady who sort of manages it was giving a tour so had to scoot out. But I did get to see someplace I have always wanted to go! Looking up...
Looking out ...

| | | Hey AI, Im in the Dallas/FW area and know of a few good locations myself. What type of 'security" did that last place you have on your post have? Is it even feasible to get in there? Also, I bet its being turned into housing of somesort much like everything else cool in this city. Ok, hit me up on here or go to my website at www.hollisbennett.com and see what I do, etc. etc. There is contact info on there if you ever want to go out exploring.
Some of us do this to escape our jobs, some of us do this wishing it was our job. I some how figured out how to make this my career. |

| | | I noticed a certain hotel in the shots. That place is a wonderful spot for UE and ghost hunting. Sadly it might be scheduled for demolishion soon unless they fix the roof and bring the electricity up to code. [last edit 10/14/2005 11:36 PM by Mutt12 - edited 1 times]

| | | I've been there several times and it's a great place to explore. This place is huge so there's a lot to see there. Downside is that there has been quite a bit of vandalism over the years so the police watch it like crazy and arrest anyone that they catch inside without permission. The property manager also presses trespassing charges on anyone who's caught too. It's on the National Register of historic buildings so it's not going to be demolished anytime soon and it's also for sale for anyone who can pony up $3,000,000. There's another 4-6 million in repairs that would have to be done to be able to open it back up to the public, though. It is a neat place to check out though and it has a long and rich history.

| | | While you're in the neighborhood, check out Bat World. It's on the same square. They were gonna exterminate a colony of 30,000+ bats in a building so they could put it up for sale and a lady said she'd buy it bats and all. She started a bat sanctuary there and does injured and orphaned bat rehab. http://www.batworld.org/main/main.html [last edit 10/15/2005 2:34 PM by Barry Kooda - edited 2 times]

| | | Cool! I went with one of my kids' classes to Bat World about 8 years ago, and I have since wondered if it was still in operation. Glad to see it's still there. Arch-Image, your photos are excellent!
