All the UE community here in the DFW area knows this place. Just wanted to share some of my pix. I have wanted to go through this place since I moved here in the early 80's. Yeah, that dates me! :)

We had heard that the center ruins, which looks like a large foundation and pile of rubble might have been the ammonia plant used to chill the different structures needing refrigeration. Any thoughts there?

Ok, ive been in DFW for almost a year and don't know where this is. It looks to be in the Trinity River basin SE of downtown but thats just a guess. Anyone care to fill me in on its whereabouts? Check out what I do at www.hollisbennett.com and let me know what you think and also where this place is.

Thanks guys.

I think I recognize that building. I used to see it going to and from my friend's place back when I was in junior high and high school. I could be wrong, though. Whatever it is, I wanna explore it now.

I think that's part of the old Swift & Armour plant, right? Behind the former Spaghetti Warehouse building?

It smells really bad at night. Huge sulfur issues.

What's cooler than being cool?

Those purple slabs in the salt house look like they were where the generators were mounted.

Actually, they're not really purple, it's just a trick of the light. They're concrete and my guess is there was some sort of motorized machinery mounted on them. Right next to each slab there's a small hole where you can see down into the huge salt tanks and it seems that there was a motor attached that turned a shaft that goes into each tank and had chains attached to it. Seems it was used to either stir or break up the salt.

The last picture is where there might have been some sort of electrical or ammonia refrigeration plant. There are huge, very solid concrete foundations with steel mount plates still attached. Something very large of extremely heavy was mounted there. There are also large conduits (up to 8" in diameter) still there indicating that large electrical cables may have run in and out of this area. Very strange setup and indications that there are other areas under this that have been filled in of covered.

I'm not dure why it would smell bad at night and not during the day. Also not sure about sulfur as we didn't find any indication of that while we were there. Just salt, and large amounts of it still there. Most of it solidified into extremely large chunks.
