Abandoned incinerator

This has been posted on other web sites.
The City of Fort Worth, used to burn it's garbage before the EPA put a halt to that. Refuse was brought in and dumped in deep holes, where a claw-like apparatus reached in and grabbed it and dumped it in the top of the burner. On the bottom side, there are chutes to collect the ash for disposal.

This site is active in the front, so caution is in order. There are also signs of gang activity, as you can see by the list of names someone took the time and care to paint on the wall, including those that have passed away. Also, watch were you step, there are places where you can hurt yourself or fall through the floor.

All in all, it's an interesting site. Most all of it can be accessed, with the exception of the deep holes where the trash was initially dumped. (the ladder rungs have been removed and escape from these would be next to impossible without a rope or ladder). Falling here would be very injurious. And the crane operator's post doesn't look too safe, we didn't venture out to it. There is also a burned metal structure to the west, the entire contents destroyed. And an elevated tank in the SW corner, unknown contents and hidden in the trees.

There are three levels, not including the roof.(careful here as you can be seen from the houses to the south across the rail road tracks). Top level is the loading floor, ,middle are the burners themselves and bottom is the ash shut and access to the smoke stacks. (you can get inside one). I don't know about any asbestos exposure, but just be aware that it is probably there, due to the age of the structure, and I would take precautions.

Oh, the Incinerator. I visited a few years back before the building in the West corner burned down - found all sorts of goodies like stacks of teal, orange, and yellow plastic tubs (no idea), a forklift with the keys still in the ignition (couldn't start it, darn), and empty wooden crates.

The creepiest thing we found was in the South stack - the semi-mummified corpses of two dogs lying back to back.

I think at one point I had added this as a location in the DB, but when the site was changed, it got deleted or maybe I just can't see it due to access issues? I should look into that. I've got a couple more sites I'd like to add - is it more appropriate to post them in the forums or to wait until I'm able to add locations?

Wow, 6 months and one post. Your obligatory lurking period is over. All assholedness aside, welcome to the board. Your name reminds me of biochem.

Yeah, the database entry is still there but is set for Full Member access only. That kinda sucks. We should go explore sometime. Then we can have a committee, take a vote and see if you are worthy... Just kidding! But seriously, I make it to the Dallas / Ft Worth area once in a while but you'll probably meet one of the others who can give you access before you'll meet me.

Answer: yes maybe it depends

If its a sensitive or important u.e. location its way better not to post it in a publicly viewable thread. The risk of having your location vandalized compromised, destroyed, locked down etc is what you must weigh. If its some place with no security issues by all means post away and share your work.

The good news is there are work-arounds. If you have some really nice pics you want to show off for example and, that dont give anything away , you can share'em here or the photography forum or create a journal. Just dont identify the location, call it by name or reveal any entry details. Just some friendly suggestions because you are not the only lurker. Anyone can see these public threads.

Excellent question thanks for asking first.

It's a nick that I've had for years. It has a long history starting back in the old BBS days before internet.
