|  | | | fyi (more knowledge from my nuke engineering days), gas masks, ironically, are useless for real gasses. well, useless for MOST gasses anyways. if it's a gas that activated carbon can adsorb, it'd work for a while i guess (until your AC got depleted). they're good for particulates and aerosols, but gasses (most!) go right through the suckers...

Chlorine gas and carbon monoxide are gasses themselves, meaning that they can't be filtered out in the same way.

The only thing that I thought you should have mentioned was about the canaries used to detect gas in mines. The indicator of the presence of gas was that the bird dies. When the bird dies it's time to leave. Creepy.

In fact in most places where you'd need a respirator a half mask will work for you. Asbestos really doesn't have much of an effect on anything except your lungs. (thou, I bet it would ich like hell if you rolled around in it, but other than that) So you don't really have to protect your eyes from it. just from larger particles. (i.e. falling crud) Some standard safety goggles(sp?) over your glasses should be fine to keep the crud out.
If however you are trying to protect yourself from chemical vapors you would want to go with a full mask. I'm not certain about other brands of masks but the way the MSA masks handle glasses is by adding a clip to the inside of the mask that positions the glasses in front of your face within the mask. Minus the two ear pieces. You can get such a thing from: http://www.cascadesupply.com/respirators-accessories.htm for about $5.00 USD. But you have to supply your own wireframes. (I would expect that an old pair of glasses would do.) And I expect you'd have to be using an MSA mask as well. (but other mask brands may have similar items)
So to answer your question, no a full face mask will not seal good if your wearing glasses. But I would think that a good half mask and a pair of sturdy safety goggles would be fine for dealing with asbestos. You don't really need to keep it out of your eyes as much as you need to keep it out of your lungs. But as far as chemical vapors go - go with a full face and the "Spectacle Holders".

Be careful with the Canadian issue masks. The Green C-4 gas masks had an inherent valve problem making them defective. The black C-4 masks are better but I’ve heard some of them also have problems. They are just about the coolest looking ones I’ve seen but that doesn’t keep you from breathing asbestos. The old 60mm M-69 masks are probably not worth it but they are cheap and I have used them. I would look for a black C-4 mask but be sure to test it before use.

i dunno, i just read something the other day about some of the current Canadian military gas masks being recalled. if i could only find that again, i'd link it.
that site you linked (imsplus), there is a lot of neat shit there!! a gear geek (me) could go crazy (read: broke) at that site. gloves, masks, shirts, hey look some good goggles, MREs, all sorts of tools, backpacks, daypacks, rucksacks, buttpacks, packs for your packs, hats, watches, patches, tactical stuff... all sorts of more-than-likely-unnecessary (but completely cool) stuff.
i'm gonna have to watch myself.
