| | Getting started in Austin: Advice? < on 7/8/2005 9:23 PM >
| | | Hi, I'm new to exploration and am interested in advice on getting started. I'm in Austin and would love to hear from anyone with suggestions for a beginner. Thanks.

| | | This is advice based on the activity here on the forum. Im not going to offer advice on what or how to explore. That being said get a digital camera shoot something interesting you explored and post them here. (its not necessary to shoot pictures to explore, its just part of the fun thing we do sharing images and stories here) Check the UE DB there are no publicly viewable locations in Austin for some reason but there 25 in Texas and 8 of those are in Dallas. You can see other peoples work there. Check out NY and Canada too. There several Austinians on here maybe they can hook up with you. Good luck with your exploring. | | | There are 5 locations for Austin in the UEDB. They should be viewable, cause lots of people have looked so far. There is also a thread about Austin already, which you might want to check out. The UT steam tunnels were accessible, but the only entrance I knew about was recently demolished. The Austin Athletic club and Travis house are good places to begin with. Rev told me about some abandoned miniature golf course and skating rink off of Riverside, but I have not visited it. Have you seen Rev's website? http://suv.topcities.com/ Let me know when you wanna explore and we can get ahold of Rev and maybe see some new sites.

| | | Yeah, there are places to see here. In fact I saw an open manhole further East of the Ben White / I 35 interchange that we need to check out if still open. I didn't look inside since I was driving. Seems like there was a few other places I've seen recently... [edit] Oh, yeah! It's not in Austin but North San Antonio there is a MALL that has been closed for a little while. I haven't seen one of those all to myself yet.
