How close can you go?
| | Re: Explorer icons? <Reply # 40 on 7/1/2005 10:30 AM >
| | | Maybe we should replace the icons with simple, narrow, horizontal colour stripe, a bit like in the US army. For example 2x4px blue stripe for being an administrator, two red 1x4px stripes on yellow background for being a member for two years and so on.

| | | Posted by Mr. Yuk What do icons have to do with exploring? Rather than creating new icons and such, why don't people get out and explore something? You got something to share? Share it. This site is becoming less and less focused on what it is intended for.

Just for one example, if you're looking for someon in your area that does drains, well you can just look up there member profile and see if they have done drains, therefor they can either help you find one, or you can go with them to one. Just one possibility.

| | | Go ahead and trick out the user profile with user icons, but the main forum interface looks perfect the way it is. What icons appear under a name should really only signify what they've done to contribute to this online resource, not their personal preferences. I understand the pride flag but it's not really relevant like the others. Adding more "optional" icons seems like it will detract from what is there now. I strongly vote to keep this information to the user's profile. I do, however, welcome the idea of adding additional information to the profiles so as to learn a bit more about the people we interact with, as they see fit to volunteer.

| | | The profiles don't give out much of information about the user. So the icons could be welcome there, or then some text field where user could tell something about him/herself and his/her preferences.
