| | | PM Vacation/Away/Unavailable Message < on 6/19/2005 11:24 PM >
| | | Is there any way to create a "vacation/away/unavailable message" that users can set and which will get sent to anyone who PMs them? I ask because someone from UER sent me a PM about a possible exploration while I was on vacation recently and I didn't get the message until several days later. Obviously it's not a huge deal, but it would be helpful for people to know right away that the user they're trying to contact won't be available until X date rather than having to keep checking UER for a return message. If one wanted to get all fancy, maybe there could even be automated activation and deactivation of messages -- like, you set a date and time at which it turns itself on and off, so that you don't have to sign on to UER to set it. Maybe this information could also appear in someone's profile, with an option to turn that feature off and on. If this a feature that Av thinks would be useful, I propose the "away message" as a standard feature and the automatic de/activation as a premium feature. -- Mat

Yeah, that's basically it, but geared towards letting others know you won't be around to explore so they don't think you're a jerk for not responding. -- Mat

| | | I think it would be good to have, especially because it is summer. A lot of people are going to be on vacation, or gone for the weekend, and stuff like that.

| | | Or maybe some sort of message that shows up when you send a PM that says "This person has notified UER that he or she may not be around for a while" Though with the "Out of Office Reply" thing, I am having flashbacks of a vintage copy of MS Outlook that had a flaw where if one person sent a email to a person with that feature on, then when done sending the email, turned their "Out of Office reply" on, it caused a loop of sending those emails back and forth on every mailbox check.
