I'm not after you Ryden, but 'Dukes raises a good point. We don't know who's here.

I'm not after you either. It just struck me as "wrong".

I used to pull stunt like this when I was in school. Want to unexpectedly visit the GF at 4AM? Just pull out the old "Hold the door, I'm drunk and can't find my keycard" scheme. Or hide out wait for someone to enter, and then catch the door before it latches.
But this was college when stunts and being a dumbass are accepted. I just feel that apartments should be off limits. Like I said, hotels are one thing, you get a free swim, whatever, but they pay to live in an apartment, and all the amenities that go with it. That makes it beyond anything I would do (if I was interested).

And then to bring up the "lockpick" issue with regards to residences, common areas or not, is BAD.

If someone is watching here, those of us balloonheads here that use lockpicks (very few) use them to break locks that secure a building that has sat idle for years! In other words locks that might as well be unlocked, as they protect a forgotten site.
Just to clarify.
And I wouldn't know a lockpick from a toothpick.

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.

On a totally different topic, someone here mentioned talking on the phone.
Yes it does make you "blend in". In '96 me and a friend of mine got into a concert held at a horse track without paying. We walked through the service entrance, totally ignoring the security guard , while I'm shouting into my not connected Motorola brick " If those hospitality trucks aren't there at 7 pm then your ass is on the line DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!!!!"
We even stopped directly in front of the guard shack, while I muttered "so what act is next?" or some crap. Stopping gave us legitimacy. We never looked at him, he didn't look at us, and we waltzed right in.
To me it has nothing to do with UE, it's just a bullshit line, but it was a funny story..

When I worked in Utica NY, we would go out after work, me and my buddy. I'd be wearing dress clothes, my buddy Chris with the Kangol cap on backwards, goatee, sleeveless T shirt, the whole bit. So all we had to do was play the part and weren't we drinking for free the whole night? It was beautiful. Chris was the enforcer, and I was the well dressed Mafioso. Never heard so many "Yes sirs" In my life (Utica has a bit of an organized crime reputation)!
Hehe, that was kinda fun.
Wear a shirt and tie in Utica, throw on a leather goombah sportscoat, and you'll get anything handed to you.
BTW, if you try this, you are advised to avoid the traditional Mafia hangouts, stick to the slummy bars and strip clubs.

Phones are great when getting out of potential jams before they worsen. Rather than blatantly bullshitting an official in the face when you know they know more than you possibly could, you just make up a false situation on your phone and you're out without a question.

I dont think a rent-a-cop at a concert is an "official".

Me and my friends were looking at a few apartments/condos not so much from a UE point of view, but from a recreation point of view. Its winter now, and having exhausted our towns supply of fun UE places during the summer, we're looking for good places to go in the cold. I know of a couple apartments/condos boasting pools, pool tables, lounges etc. that would be reasonably entertaining as well as mixed with a bit of sneaking and exploration to get there. On our first and only attempt so far we were stopped at all entrances by locks, so we proceeded to find an underground walkway to the parking garage on the other side of the property. We again were stopped by the insistance of a key. Any ways of getting in besides waiting suspiciously and tailing a person? Or if thats the only way any good ideas on how to do it?

They are just trying to tell you of the consequences of getting caught. Don't take it personal. Give it some thought before you begin your expedition as to what kind of place you are exploring.
