|  | | | I've noticed with the spell check that I'm actually having common words (admittedly, some slang) which are catching the spellchecker. I don't know how hard it would be to implement but perhaps some way to suggest words that are absent from the site's dictionary?

That is the exact reason why it should NOT be in the dictionary!
Yesterday I was on a chat channel and 3 or so people used "lol" as a period. The stupid thing was they were on a technical support channel.

Pfft, their use of "lol" only adds to their other abuses of the language. 
Not accepting a valid word is just as bad as using it to mean something it doesn't.
