|  | | | i carry a knife with a 5 inch blade when i UE. its old but sturdy so its good for prying stuff and various other things. But what are the laws in canada? where can you wear it on your person? what the the blade size restrictions? ect ect.

A switch blade is an illegal "prohibited" weapon in this country. What makes it illegal is the spring that pops the blade out, if it had no spring and was the right sized blade it could be legal. It would no longer be a switchblade though...

Not trying to be a dick here, just a little bit of a Devil's advocate. What do you need a 5 inch knife for? What would you be prying? That would mean to me that all you're leaving is not tracks, or there is an element of breaking and entering involved.

|  | | | 5"? Wow! If its not on your belt/sheath and you get nailed, you are screwed. 3 1/2" is the limit for concealed knives, anything over that MUST be visible. Over 5" and its illegal to have on your person while in a public place. Lockblade knives fall under the same rules as non-locking blades. Any spring loaded knife is a prohibited weapon.(illegal) So Butterfly, Switchblaes and other pop-up bladed knives are illegal.

yeah its pretty neat , i never really found the altimeter useful coz it keeps changing with the pressure , but the thermometer on it is useful .

just to clarify, a butterfly knife is not spring-loaded, they are "gravity blades".

I remember one time when I was in court (don't ask, it was a long time ago, and silly) and there was a gentleman carrying a jewelled ceremonial dagger in his robes.
He was denied entry into the courthouse unless he surrendered the blade.
So, yes, while some religions have this provision, the law is clear. Sometimes the public good trumps individual rights.
I remember something similar a few years ago in Canada about a guy in the army demanding that he not have to wear a helmet inside his armoured vehicle because he wanted to wear his turban. He lost.

I think its Sikhs that are allowed to carry ceremonial daggers, but i'm pretty sure their religion states they aren't even allowed to use them. There's a few Sikhs in my high school, but they are only allowed to carry the sheath and knife handle.
