|  | | | i'm sort of looking at jester for this but i know lots of you also have tabis too... anyways:
i was able to pick up a pair of tabi boots last week and so far i like them alot except for that the rubber in between the toes is really stiff and my foot starts to ache after a while because of it. i tried on several pairs, so these do fit me properly, and i guess i'm just wondering if the rubber will get softer after a while or something to that effect? any tips on what can stop this? i've thought of just putting a bandaid or something inbetween my toes while i wear them, but its been raining so i havnt had the chance to test that out. any information would be much appreciated.

|  | | | I find it takes some time to get used to the feel and fit of Tabi. I actually found it was my tabi sock that cause me some discomfort... I've found that making sure your foot is pushed back to the heel as far as possible when putting them on helps. I also bought a decent sport insole and cut it to fit the tabi, which made them far more comfortable.

As was already said, get a sports insole and cut to fit. also, if you're going anywhere you really shouldn't be going, cut out that velcro - it will start to come apart quite loudly at the worst possible moment. I'd suggest keeping them secured with some surgical bandages or similar. Even if you're using them on a derelict, the velcro will come apart after a while and you risk losing one.
Oh, and when you go to climb a fence; your feet will get punished, those things really need some padding.
To get used to them just wear them around the house, that's what I did when I first got mine.

| | | | Proper Tabi use the old style clips, not velcro, you may want to try getting a pair like that.
I find the time that an insole is most beneficial is when you're walking or running, especially in areas with rocks/pebbles (gravel is hell) because you feel each one as you step...

| | | | I've put a decent sport insole (meant for running) into mine and it does help a lot. It's just that a tabi has very little solid structure, it's a double edged sword. The flexibility makes them great from some things, while at the same time making them not much fun for others...
And you really have to make sure you cut your insole right, because you sure won't be able to return a set thats been cut into tabi shape...

They won't make a loud person silent, but they do help. Just like any footwear, if the sole is of a material that is softer/flexible, you'll generally get a more silent step than a hard soled boot. A light stepper will get even more quiet, so I think they're worth it. I find them most beneficial for climbing, where the flexibility and split toe design make it very helpful.

Whats all this about much needed traction on the ground?! Are you having a hard time "sticking" to the ground? and you can forget about climbing walls as I see thats what you are hinting at.

| | | | i do have the original style that does up with the little metal tabs theyre working well so far, except a few of the ones that are looser around my ankle come undone a bit. i just put the insoles in a half hour ago and theyre even more comfy. i would agree with jester in saying that the socks are more uncomfortable than the boots themselves.
