I think it might be a good idea if you limit each gallery to a dozen or so pictures. People might think twice about uploading garbage then. It might also encourage people to post pictures of *different* things and cut down on some of the redundency that comes with having multiple galleries.

It’s quite likely that Caput was half joking when he made his suggestion but it was worth commenting on nonetheless.

The LDB would be as much fun as watching paint dry if there were only a dozen pictures. Most of these are place I'll never go.
Scotland, for example, ends up with hundreds of pictures in the post, but it's just as much fun to see the people that explore as it is to see the location.
It's fun; If there weren't all the pics, I wouldn't look. If the intent isn't to be a forum of sorts, then the "comment on pic" feature should be removed, and relegate it to the boring status of the UE Encyclo, which I've loooked at ohh, about three times, usually just to click "Mark Read" and get rid of it.
BTW, more folks should include pics of themselves and otheres in these shots; its' more interesting that way. You can only stomach the fifty third photo of a morgue in some psych, but when each pic has some goofball laying on the slab with his/ her tongue hanging out, now that's entertainment!

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

Yes really, that's a bad idea. If someone explors some big closed down decayed hospital or factory all they can upload is 12 pitures? I hope not.

This idea has been brought up and rejected before.

Grrrr ! You best whatch your step ! just kidding...

I think the DB is fine, I have not seen to many pictures uploaded lately that shouldn't be. We all can't be professional photographers, and this is not a photography site. If you see something out of line or to poor quality to be of use report it to SK. If you see a location with tons of pictures, look at the ones you want to see, thats what the gallery overview is for....

"Trimming the fat" of the LDB picture galleries has been discussed before. I don't feel like searching for it at the moment, but there's a thread somewhere that discusses different solutions, one of which was limiting galleries to 50 photos similar to what was suggested here.

Personally, I think people should try to do a better job of selecting out pictures (for instance, pick your best picture of the chair in the window instead of posting all 5 you took), but I don't think we really need to enforce that with a rule. Just use common sense when posting and let the LDB mods worry about what's not appropriate. I feel sure that when they do actually delete something and someone disagrees, we'll be right back here discussing it, and we'll establish precidents as they are needed instead of trying to make ambiguous rules.

I agree. I think while the ldb is a wonderful place to gawk its not a personal website. I use it to scout locations, and when i see pics that best show off the location i'll check them out. If you want 100 pics of a location, set up your own website.

Just a thought... maybe if people actually looked at all the existing DB pics of a location prior to adding another gallery, some of the redundancy would be avoided.

Yet another unoriginal generic UE website. GODDAM!

It looks like some people just upload their entire memory stick of photos and put them all into the DB without even looking at them. Some pictures are turned sideways. Some pictures are nothing but blackness. Some pictures are like, five shots in a row of the same thing. Some pictures are so blurry you don't even know what it is you're looking at.

Yeah, definitely a bad idea. Some locations are way too large to have only 12 pictures for each gallery. I'm all for people posting 200 pictures of a location, as long as they're not all blurry, black, overexposed, etc. The more information the better.

Maybe ya'll should actually wait and see how the new mods do their job before complaining. Has anyone had their pictures or comments unfairly removed yet? I don't think removing blurry or duplicate photos will be a problem, it's not too hard to tell the difference between a good but fuzzy photo and one that adds nothing to the location.

Um, they're complaining about the procedure which the mods will carry out. As far as I can tell, Freak's comment made perfect sense. Lets see something done incorrectly or unfairly before complaining about it.

well, at least one or two of the people here talking about "the procedure" are actually mods themselves.

*edit
i'm not trying to be snarky about this
i'm just wondering why people can't discuss the LDB?

Yeah, I was just replying to the folks talking about limiting photos and such, and how that's been done before. As I said before, I think the mods should be given a chance to do their thing, then when someone gets pissy at having their pictures deleted (which will undoubtedly happen), we'll do some real-time policy creation.
