Umm... I was more referring to the fact that, standing against a solid color surface, something with some contrast like that would be worse than wearing a solid color. Because you're not blending in with the surroundings. Makes sense? I think?

| | | | ehhh you would be superise. Camo clothes are not for close up generally, and you would be superised how well they work at distance. However you are right. I think the thing that most people forget in this community is that camo works great.... at a freaking distance.
On a side not thedevilmademedoit and myself have been in full daylight feet away from people with some pine straw and a branch between us and hid. Thats gotta say something for camo. Just remember its not a cloaking device and use your surroundings.

|  | | | Just observe your surroundings. During the day look around your neighbourhood what colour buildings, signs, etc, are. The dominant urban colours are usually greys, so naturally a grey would work best during the day. During night same thing. A dark blue or green might be best. In woodland areas greens and browns, ideally broken up with patterns on your clothing, would be a good choice during the day. At night broken-pattern darker greens, browns, and/or blues might be the best choice. Of course once you start moving you become a target if someone is looking in your general direction.

Instead of trying to develop that camera/display reactive cloaking camo shit, the military should just invest in BDUs with electrosensitive ink embedded in each cell or the camo pattern. The wearer could use a switch to select a green, blue, sand, white, or red (for those combat-zone raves) style depending on the environment. As a soldier moved from desert to urban, or from forest to snow environments, he wouldn't have to worry about stopping to change clotes.

I foun it too very hard to find appropriate camo for urban environment, and my solution would be basicaly to make your own. Just define four (or five) most general colors in the envirnoment you plan to act in and then just cut large regular patterns and sew it on monocolored trouses. The problem is that it works in a specific environments, or parts of the towns (new buildings, old, burned, crashed, w/out vegetation or w/ vegetation etc.) but i found it to be very good camo at a certan distance even without fisical attempt of hiding.

Also, it seems to exist cultural differences between European and North American wears. I live in the new world and I have camo pants and shirt. I like to wear my shirt as a jacket. Per experience, it seems to be acceptable here, especially during hunting season. Camo pants are sometimes ok, but it depends to who. I have no problem, but lots of people don't like them. I don't know why. It may be ok on a downtown city street, but not at university or some towns. Also, wearing both pants and shirts together is not a good idea at all, since you will look as a G.I.Joe look-a-like.
