| | | Hey everyone, I will be doing a live (in studio) interview tommorow on Ottawa Morning, the CBC radio morning show in Ottawa. The segment is schedualed to start around 8:15AM. You can listen in on the internet via the CBC website. Wish me luck. I'll do my best to put a nice positive spin on UE. Yes, I am nervous! http://ottawa.cbc.ca/ottawamorning/

| | | yep. St. Paul is in the center of central. That means 7:15 for me, which probably won't happen. Would someone mind recording and encoding the broadcast?

| | | Sorry for posting again... I recorded the interview this morning and it was very well done, Detroit. You did a good job of putting a positive spin on exploring, and deflected some of his less shining remarks about exploration rather well. Right now I have the interview as a 30Mb .aiff file, but will convert it to MP3 as soon as I can and make it available on my Minimanga webspace. I'll post when it's ready to be downloaded. C.

| | | Wicked! Thanks Crossfire. I knew he was going to spring that "Tresspassing" one on me, I could just feel it! I think it went really well considering it was live. (Can you tell that my office is not very far away from the studio!) I really wanted to mention the online UE community and uer.ca but we just ran out of time. At least people can follow the link to the forum from my website.

| | | Damn you, Detroit! ... ... ... You made me late for work because I was listening to your interview! (Only a minute late, though, so it's all good. ) I caught about 70-80% of the middle part of the interview (am downloading the whole thing now from Crossfire), but I thought it went very well. I thought you handled his questions very well, though he was obviously hoping you'd provide juicy details about places in the Parliament Hill area, or anywhere else you'd been. I think your polite refusal to do so, though, was not only the right thing to do in terms of security, it also made the whole thing more appealing. Hopefully anybody who is dedicated enough to find sites and locate entrances on their own (or do research to find them) will be more likely to be a "good" explorer than some random person following directions they heard on a radio show. Plus, overall you were able to suggest a more aesthetic bent to the hobby rather than the "outlaw" label that a lot of media outlets seem to want to put onto people who willfully break trespassing laws. (And thank goodness that the whole stealing-from-sites thing didn't come up [at least while I was listening]. We don't need another ten page thread on THAT...) -- Mat

| | | Thanks guys. It was a nice experience and I was very lucky to get an open minded host who actually appreciates what we do. He actually told me off air that he fondly remembers exploring a burned out neighbours house when he was young. I guess there is a bit of explorer in everyone!

| | | I ummm... have not tracked my web stats since I moved my site to the minimanga server. I imagine it got a bit more traffic but I was more interested in getting good positive media exposure for UE rather than driving traffic to my site. From what I have heard print exposure usually results in a much bigger jump in site traffic because people can refer to a printed copy of your url. I have had some very positive emails as a result of the interview and that is always gratifying. I now have something bigger in the works that will hopefully be another very positive media experience for myself and the UE community.

| | | This is really great, Detroit. And thanks, Crossfire, for recording it. It's sort of made me re-think my views on UE in the media. Usually i'm anti-media when it comes to UE.. but that just stems from the fear i have of it being portrayed negatively. I haven't finished listening to the whole thing, but I just copied it onto a cd and I'm going to listen to it on my way to work tonight.

| | | I was a bit concerned with the host trying to put a negative spin on UE but he was genuinely interested in the subject. Isn't what you do trespassing? Ummm ... it's a grey area of the law.

| | | Well, to be nitpicky, legally it's not a grey area at all, it's very black and white. You're either trespassing or you're not, and most of us are. [last edit 9/17/2004 4:04 AM by uem-Tux - edited 1 times]
