police on private property?

so my question to you people is: are police allowed to simply patrol or enter areas or private property? i understand that if someone calls and says "such and such is happening at such and such a place" then they will enter, but they would not simply enter and walk around on private property just because they damn well please, would they?

my law course covered resedential stuff, but what about general outdoors type areas?

AFAIK, and IANAL, The police in ontario have the right to enforce the law all across ontario, the only places they wouldnt/couldnt go are things such as inside a persons home without a warrany/being invited, a persons property unless they are chasing a perp, or have probable cause(which could be anything nowadays). but they can waunder around almost anywhere, parks, open grassy areas, etc, and if they see somthing suspicious, can investigate it.

Depends on a lot of things, like the department, the nature of the property, time of day, how busy things are, if the property owner has requested any/extra patrols, if the property has been a nuisance or problem in the past, how accessible it is... But the answer is "yes, sometimes".

At least in the U.S., anyway.
