Bad tunnel air.

Any drainers should read these links, particularly those who freqent tunnels with heavy traffic nearby. CO can accumulate and disorient/kill quite fast without warning, and an atmosphere that is fine at one time may be toxic at another.

I was in a real small tunnel underneath our heavily traffic'd outlet mall and got real light headed while in there seeing what was around the next corner (dead end). Luckily I told my friend that If I stopped moving...to get me outta there and If I died..they could eat me if they needed to save themselves.

Thanks 4 the links though!

If somebody passes out because of a bad atmosphere, the rule of thumb is to get yourself out I believe, leave them to be hopefully rescued later when you are able to make it to emergency help.

well, i'd say, if you HAVE to leave them there, make sure you cover their mouth and nose with a few layers of their shirt first, then get the fuck out and get emergency services!

That'll most likely kill them (and you) faster. The more time you spend doing something other than going to get help is time wasted. A few layers of cloth will not magically create oxygen when there is none, and you put yourself further at risk by wasting 30 seconds trying to get their shirt rigged up as a ghettospirator.

ok, you right...i dont know what i was thinking, but that would help in some breathing situations, and should only take about 6 seconds one handed

if your realy worried about bad air i would sudjest picking up a can of spare air. its like a miny scuba tank and it holds about 5-10 cubic meters of air depending on the modle you buy. thay may be expensive but its better then dieing.

trying to drag your buddy out of a room with no air will only make you breathe harder . . not very good . . maybe tie a rope to his leg and drag him out when you get to an area with better air quality? (just kidding of course)

I wonder if it would be worth taking the precaution of bringing a carbon monoxide detector into tunnels that might collect that gas. Just one of those cheaper ones that beeps for use in houses, the ones that hang from the ceiling or stick to the wall or something. Attach it to a backpack or belt or something.

On one of mr first long underground trips I went into an area that smelled heavily of petroleum products. My buddy and I started to get kind of dizzy, but kept on going anyway. After we retraced our steps later we realised that we passed right under an area where the city was laying tar. Nasty fumes.
