There's oil in them thar hills

One of my friends found information about an old abandoned oil reserve not far from my home. A couple months passed and nobody went out to get a closer look, so I finally did around time for the Lunar New Year.

1. There was no sign of them from downhill, so I climbed up the slope and looked down on them.

2. That's the World Cup Stadium in the distance.

3. I did a lot of hiking that day, circling all the way around the complex.

4. Uh-oh, a no entry sign.

5. I don't see a sign at this one. Should be safe then.

6. Finally I made it down to one of them.

7. We went down to the bottom.

8.

9. These things have been built into the ground, keeping a very low profile from the surface. It also led to this collapse.

10. Let's get the oil flowing.

11.

12. There's a way in.

13. This was the smallest of all the basins.

14. We left quickly due to noises coming from over where the rocks had collapsed.

15.

16.

Neat find. Any idea what the noise was?

Probably just more rocks sliding downhill. At one point we heard someone up above coughing, but it was most likely an echo from all the way up at the top of the hill.

By the way, check out what this design firm wants to do with this location.

really interesting tank placement. I work in a chemical plant and have never seen anything like this. I'm sure it's more common than I realize though.

If it helps, I think there were probably a lot of military strategic decisions in how these things were dug into the slope of a hill.
