|  | | | Tonight on FOX 10pm News in Boston is a story about "Urban Exploring" on how state agencies are leaving medical & personal records behind and they are being found/take by Urban Explorers. From the preview of the segment, they are showing locations and some "Urban Explorers" are interviewed and of course they are blacked out so no one knows who they are. Well F*%k them and there bullshit 15 seconds of fame. Rule number #1 is NEVER talk about locations. So now we will have to deal with higher security measures, the state removing all the good stuff we love to read and photograph and people trying to get into locations for the wrong reasons. It just sucks for all of us that do this with a passion and I hope the story is not as bad as the previews was, and let's pray that it is not a full member of this site. regardless if the intention was for good, it's not. Just about all of us here go places we are not suppose to be and we need to not shed light on it. Sorry if it came off as a rant, but some of us here work very hard to do what we do.

It sucks, but it's just how it is. Ed's right, if it wasn't for people wanting to get into places to steal stuff they wouldn't get opened so quickly/consistently.
Edit: however, going on the news and bragging about it is pretty lame.

I was about to make a response similar to this. Sure sounds like scapegoating on us for finding the states fuck up. Then they show the location like HEY, HEY GUYS, HERE ARE THE SECRETTTTS! Friggen seriously? Seriously though, I've encountered places like this, some with state secrets, some with medical information, Just. Laying. Out. like there's nothing to protect. Someones to blame for this security lapse, and it sure aint the guy with the camera who comes in 10-20 years later. Though the guys name dropping and sharing the inside with the public are being assholes, especially since the building is at no risk of being removed. Now it's just going to draw attention and probably some asshat arsonist.

But you have to look at it from both sides.
Think about a freshly closed building with heat, power, locked doors, locked windows and still owned by the state. Is it okay to store medical records in there? If so, at what point does it become not okay?

Would that be the wonderful L Shaped location? I was planning a trip there this weekend, although I've been there dozens of times already with no issue I was planning on shooting some nice video with a new camera. But looks like i'll have to be checking out private abandondements instead.
So am I to take it you're not even allowed to walk around the grounds anymore until dusk? After all there was a sign that says that it closes at dusk. It seems to me the long standing thing with the L was you're allowed to walk the grounds until dusk as a park however not enter the buildings.

| | | | This is an issue that happens now and again as the years go on. For a few weeks everything is vigilant and then it drops as they can't share the resources to continue. It's like anytime a location is under scrutiny/someone gets arrested there. Either be real smart about it or wait it out.
Don't put the blame on Fox, even though I'd love to. Blame goes on the person who went in and shared their photos and findings. I won't even call them an explorer.
It'll all blow over by the time the weather is best for getting back out there easily.
