As the only National Park also doubling as a beach, Fort Tilden did not receive the same clean-up process as other state & city parks such as the Rockaways and was in fact officially closed for the entirety of 2013. While authorities were not scanning the area upon our entrance, we did witness others receive tickets below as we sat safe in the Barracks. Fort Tilden used to serve as an active barracks back when the Navy Yard was used for the Navy and not start-ups and studios. The notorious dunes of the beach were completely leveled. Parking lots were swallowed by the beach. Concrete skeletons lined the shores. There was eerie silence where half a year ago was congestion akin to Union Square.
