|  | | | "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!" -me, after exploring one of the coolest places I've ever been.
Some background on the place: Like most abandonments in New Orleans, this hospital was abandoned after Hurricane Katrina and left to sit. I believe it was built in the 1930's. Employees and patients were trapped within the hospital, struggling to maintain order and save lives.
Background on the explore: We spent a good week or two watching security on the weekends, memorizing their routines so that we knew what times would be safe to enter/exit, and also scouting for entrances. After a whole lot of recon and work (and a little luck), we finally made it in. In all, we saw the top 8 floors out of 18, and will be returning soon to finish the rest.

So here we go.
This sight was an incredibly sobering thing to see. These are the names of employees trapped within the hospital during the storm, desperately trying to keep patients alive. The censoring is comical, as I censored several parts of it with some shitty online program. Try not to let it take away from the effect. These people fought for not only their own lives, but for the lives of hundreds of others.

I took this photo because it illustrates Louisiana heat. At some point, this candle melted out of its container inside this building. Hurricane Katrina occurred in August, and the hospital would have been without AC. I can only imagine the conditions inside.

Thanks for the feedback guys! iliamo, yeah, there is a 24 hour security presence outside the building, and occasionally maintenance and medical staff are inside the building. It's also a fairly hard place to get in to, until you know the spot, so it tends to keep out casual explorers and curious passers-by.
