is it just me......?

I'm sure the answer is yes, yes it is you. But, I don't enjoy exploring recently abandoned things or that do not have some decay on it's way.

For example, I have found a number of old rural farm homes that has been abandoned for at least 10 years, however, upon entry it was in pretty good condition, just empty. Another time I found an abandoned home that looked like time just stopped. Still had picture frames on the walls, books on the shelves, televisions, etc. It looked like someone just moved out 25 years ago and left everything behind.

Those type of places just don't move the needle for me. I like peeling paint, broken windows, signs of nature taking back what's rightfully theirs. The other stuff, I just wander around and leave, often times leaving the camera in the bag.

Is it just me or do others feel the same? Do you care what the abandonment looks like or are you just happy to find it and explore it.

Too many buildings here in Detroit are in terrible shape and empty, so the prime objective is always to find good condition buildings full of stuff.

I love decay, but I find my enjoyment of exploration to be subjective.......it really depends on the location. I'm always interested in the story of what happened, and there are a lot of ways to experience that. For example:

These were taken in a really luxurious mansion that used to belong to a Ponzi scheme developer that really screwed over the community in the surrounding area. It was really interesting to get a peak into his life.

Found these inside a barely "active" building....One of the floors used to house a Christian book publication company that went out of business. I was entertained

I honestly love both. To me a lot of what I enjoy is the story behind the places, and both newly abandoned and long abandoned places have stories. Different strokes for different folks though...

I'm tired of decay, its all I ever find, some decayed house on a highway or somewhere I cant get to it, I want something that looks like it did years ago..

Apparently that DID just happen. And I AM proud of it

I'd have to say that the top thing I look for are original items inside the place, something that brings a vision of what the place was like. That's the reason I love exploring, capturing a moment, frozen in time.

Decay is nice, and if I can have decay with original things, all the better. But I'll always chose a place with wear and stuff over a fully decayed place.

If the place looks like new, and someone will look at my photos and not get the "abandoned" feel, I'll document where the place is and come back later when it looks old.

If it isn't downtown or on Woodward or Jefferson, then it hasn't seen any help at all lol.

We try to do cool shit. We recently decided to start doing DPS properties even though many are loaded with motion activated cameras. Out of the ~78 properties, we have scoped out about half and explored 1/3. So far it has been very fruitful even though many get destroyed quick by scrappers. It will be an ongoing project for a while to accomplish all of them. We have only had to make a quick escape twice so far and bailed three or four times on false alarms. Seen the cops once. Big things coming up soon. Just waiting for the right time to pull the trigger.

I much prefer recently abandoned or abandoned long ago but untouched. Not destroyed with fallen ceilings and so much questionable dust just by looking at it all you think "fuck I'm screwed"

I like it both ways. My favourite thing is a glimpse of the story that went with the place, but things falling to ruin have a beauty of their own as well. I'm apt to spend a lot longer in a place if there are still remains of lives lived there, (or business happening... but there's very little business/industry in my area, it's mostly abandoned houses unless I'm far afield someplace). There's more to explore that way, to get down into the details, especially since I'm a rubbish photographer and can't take the finer points of dilapidation and really make something of them in a still image.

I could go either way. I've explored places that are completely deteriorated and others that are in relatively good condition. That said, I prefer places that are the former. I find the textures and colors make for better, more dramatic compositions. Peeling paint, rust, items that were left behind, and warped structures are a few of my favorite things.

I certainly feel like this image wouldn't have the same feel if it were in better condition.

However, this one still looks pretty wicked without all of the deterioration.

Not entirely, although it depends on the location. One of my favorite explores was a hotel abandoned in 2009, but it didn't have much deterioration. I still loved it.

i love finding non-decayed, non-vandalized places... it's a time capsule and it has a story. The things left behind add to that story. Who were these people? What happened to them? Why did they leave? Why did they leave all their shit behind? Has anyone been in here since?

I like 'em ugly, old, rotted but still full of shit, like me.

Not all barren like the NYCFC (NY) but not all clean like EBVSH (PA). The first photo above from Intrinsic is fuckin' SICK! If everything I explored was like that, it would be Heaven-on-Earth. That second one, although cool, is still fun, but in an "I don't give a fuck, I'll never be back" kinda way.
TSH (NJ) is a perfect example with the balance of what "perfect" is for me. Of course, that's not even touching on industrial awesomeness, like RPS (PA).
In all, I prefer decay, rot, peel, mold, ungliness, water damage, rust, calcite, spiders, dirt, etc.

I like the decay. Forgotten objects inside surrounded by falling in construction make it. They don't have to be still hanging in their original places.

I need to get a glass porthole installed in my belly-button.
This way, when I have my head in my ass I can still see where I'm going.

I do love the decay. Hotels & office buildings are fun but the older the better for me (usually).
