Two Thousand and Thirteen: A Chronological Review of The Past Calendar Year

It was a good year. Not as productive as 2012 but any year I don't die is generally considered to be successful.

As usual, the road trips are among my favorite parts. I need to go on more. I'm looking at you, east coast, with all your asylums and such. And Philadelphia, you're damn sexy. Call me.

I don't generally contribute much around here. So in case we haven't met: greetings, UER. And I wasn't going to do a review thread, but now I did so you're stuck with it.

-

The year started off with destruction.. which is unfortunately becoming more and more common around here. We've lost some great places in the past couple years..

January Demolition:

2.

And Fire:

4.

March Farmhouse:
5.

6.

And a Bank/nightclub:
7.

8.

In April, we visited "the first United States military installation west of the Mississippi in the new Louisiana Territory":

9.

In June it was an old hotel:
10.

11.

Thankfully, the funometer was getting warmed up by the second half of the year.

I found a recently closed theme-park that no-one seemed to think was doable because of things called "guards" and "activity". Security was in fact present, but they just weren't paying enough attention. Activity was happening in certain buildings but I kept my distance.:

12.

In August, I FINALLY made my way back into the Mausoleum. It took a few years of patience before getting the opportunity. It was worth it. It's not abandoned but it's pretty run down. It's not easy to get into and even harder to photograph.

17.

Bury Me In Smoke:
18.

19.

You can find my mortal remains next to the coffee:
20.

August also saw us penetrate Satan's prison:
21.

And we took a legitimate tour of another prison just before the place closed indefinitely to tours. They will be demolishing 9 of the buildings here this spring. Maybe more...:
22.

23.

24.

In October, it was an Odd Fellow's Lodge:
25.

And an Incinerator? :
26.

27.

And an Oil Refinery in the middle of fucking nowhere:
28.

29.

In November there was a little bit of this:
30.

A smidge of this:
31.

32.

And a little bit of that:
33.

34.

Finished up the year with a building which was comparatively boring that I might have appreciated more if it wasn't for the amazing sights we saw earlier in the year.

December's comparatively boring apartment building:
35.

36.

All in all, I had a great time, although I didn't meet anyone new, as the road tripping was shared with only one other local comrade. I did receive help from a few of you remotely. Not sure if naming you here is appropriate? In any case, you know who you are. Thank you. Here's to meeting more of you and having a more productive 2014.

2013 BONUS:

This was a carryover revisit from 2012. The interior photographs are from January 2013, so it counts. But the exteriors were from 2012 and included just so you know what you're looking at. Between visits, the guns were removed. After the visit, the boat was scrapped. It's still mostly there, but it has huge gaping holes cut into it, the bridge is gone, the guns are removed and it was hit by graffiti. This was the first time since it sunk that anyone could walk out to it so we took the opportunity. This is the last time the boat looked like this. RIP USS Inaugural.

Interiors 2013:

We barely managed to squeezed into a really tight porthole on the side. It takes being skinny and wiggly. I believe we managed the only interior photos of her since she sank.

Gratuitous gun closeup:

thanks for looking

SWEET! I see I am not the only one with a steadily climbing odometer.

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.
