| | long abandoned house and barn < on 12/31/2013 10:12 PM >
| | | i first discovered this house with some friends 4 years ago while driving around in the country about 2 hours north of Atlanta. at that time it was barely visible and the house, barn and yard were thickly guarded by thorny vines and unfriendly bushes. we got about 8 feet from the collapsing front porch but could go no further. we were bummed. so last weekend i drove back up there for the first time since, and while the house and barn are still covered in plant life, someone has cut down a lot of the weeds in the front, allowing me to not only walk easily through the barn but i was able to get much closer to the house. i tried to make my way through the shrubbery to the porch and got about 3 feet away but could not get through and walked back to the car picking thorns out of my jeans after taking a few exterior shots. i opened the car door, then closed the car door, and thought wtf am i doing? i just drove 2 hours. so i headed back and suddenly saw an opening i did not spot before. it still was pretty tough getting through but i did it. the front porch is on a precarious slant with any hint of stairs long gone so i had to climb up but i was able to shoot through one busted window and the front door was open so i took a few steps inside to get some shots, unfortunately with the dreaded flash because the sun was almost set, before leaving. prognosis....it's cool as hell but also scary (and probably unstable) as hell to walk through alone at dusk in the middle of nowhere, so i'll be going back again with a friend as backup to fully explore it soon. from the condition i'd guess i was the first person to step foot in there in at least 20 years and i can not wait to go back. 1.

| | | I like the composition of #2. Cool tv in #8 too. I have definitely done that before also haha, almost turned back at places and then been like 'wait a minute, I got up before dawn to drive out here!'. Takes a little extra courage sometimes :p Glad you made it inside. Always good not to push your luck with unfamiliar and seemingly unstable terrain though, especially when you're alone.

| | | I hear you. I mainly explore rural abandoned homes alone. Some more difficult to access than others. Recently, I fell through a stairway going up to a second floor and a floor that dropped me 4 feet to a crawl space of sorts. Worse, that happened on the same day
