2013 Recap It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (Writing & Pic Heavy)

It's that time of year again when we begin to reminisce on the past year and revisit the photos we've taken throughout the year. 2013 was rather uneventful for me, no major stories to tell but I thought I'd share my year with everyone. I invite everyone else to do the same thing - Either as a comment on my thread or as a separate thread!

2013 was full of gains and losses - as is every year. I met some cool explorers, explored some cool locations. A couple locations I liked were demolished and some of my friendships collapsed. But all in all it was a good year.

I started off my exploring year on January 2nd, when I went exploring with Dallas. We nicknamed the trip "The year of lockouts" because we only entered one out of the five locations we'd aimed for.

The lock outs -

The Success!

My next explore was on Jan 19th, I met up with Axle, Dallas & Codi where we defeated the "year of lockouts" by getting in all 3 buildings we intended to.

I explored 3 "major" locations this year...

The most expensive home to ever be placed on the Canadian Market

An old Ski Resort that could practically open tomorrow

A relatively untouched college

I made a location discovery that a bunch of people flocked to after I discovered it was open for the first time in years (Proud moment to be the trendsetter)

I revisited a few locations with a new face (Archie)

And I suffered the loss of a couple locations

An entire street of houses (15+) was demolished near my home

And a selfie just for good measure

So all in all, 2013 was a pretty great year. I look forward to the new people I'm going to meet in 2014, and the new locations I'm going to explore. Merry (Whatever you celebrate here) and happy new year! Here's to 2014.

Looks like a very successful year to me. I especially like the photo of the ski resort thru the vines. I take it you don't do much night time exploring. But I do appreciate how crisp and clear all of your photos are, very clean shots. I have a house nearby to me that had the same type of fence installed around it, definitely no going over it…maybe some tunneling might work, I've had to do that in the past. Your house with the fence looks like someone could just move right in though, wonder why they demoed it. Happy holidays to you Skye.

Looks like you had an awesome year Skye. Here's my recap from 2013...

2013 was an awesome year for me as I got my first car, giving me the ability to finally explore places off the beaten path. Ghost towns and abandoned mines are my main thing, and I got to explore plenty of them in my off-roading adventures this year. I did two major weekend long road trips this year with the sole intention of finding old ghost towns and abandoned mines. I also got the chance to meet a few other explorers as well and ventured on some trips with them. In this year I managed to explore:

7 abandoned mines
1 active mine
9 ghost towns
1 abandoned settlement
and several abandoned buildings and old graveyards

Here's some of my photos of highlights from this year:

This has to be one of the sketchiest buildings I've climbed in. It's a milling building from an old gold mine, and is 4 stories in height...and I climbed all 4 stories inside it.

I got to do my first explore that involve rappelling as I rappelled down into this old WWII military bunker.

I took two trips to get to this mine, the first trip I had to turn around as I had put a hole in my muffler as the roads we're much too rough for my little car. I managed to get there though on the second trip to see a lot of neat old mining machinery still in place

And finally just a shot of a mine entrance of one of the underground mines that I entered.

2013 was an awesome year for me, and I already have several trips planned out for 2014.

well my year was fun
EVERY.SINGLE.ONE was locked, couldnt get in to them, I only took pictures of one street and I've never seen such tight security for an abandoned building thats falling in on itself, one was so burnt down I almost fell through at the door the floor so no pictures inside it, 12 locations visited, zero entered, 4 and a half pictured
I think it went well

Apparently that DID just happen. And I AM proud of it

Good job, Skye! Some years are slower than others, but as long as you had fun doing whatchya did, that's all that matters!
I did stuff and things, but i don't feel like posting about them right now.

Fun to see what kinda year everyone has had so far.

It's been a tough year, but UE has really pulled me through. Together with my sister/exploring partner SlateGrayAmazed I have been to ...

2 asylums
2 speedways
15 houses
6 mills
2 correctional facilities
1 train
1 amusement park
6 schools
5 motels/halls
1 ghost town
2 drive-ins

Some were revisits, some brand new. Some were with new friends who I hope to see again this coming year!

I have little snap shots but if you are interested in seeing photos check out SGA's stuff at www.flickr.com/photos/jln1025

Cheers to everyone!

awesome year! (less the lock outs) Sky!
