| | Dever State School < on 12/18/2013 5:27 AM >
| | | We've visited Dever State probably about 4 or 5 times in the past two years. The site at the start was quite large. However upon our most recent visit this past summer the demolition crews had started work and it was well underway. These are a few screengrabs from some video footage we shot on the Canon XF105 Cameras. The site at the time of visit consisted of what I would call two main focus points. The main area which consists of the L-Style buildings clustered together in groups with a central "meeting place". For example an activities building, cafeteria / administration, redemption center, etc... The second focus point is on the back end of the property, which consisted of a Department of Public Safety (I'll have to double check on its purpose going from memory), an older style hospital building of 1950's vintage or so, a newer hospital building and another medical building. I will work to update this topic with more photos and video of the different buildings. Upon our last visit when they were doing the Demolition and Asbestos Abatement it was quite interesting to have watched Session 9 only a few days before then to be on site trapped into areas that were completely sealed off with the plastic wrap and the big 55 gallon drums for disposal of derbies just like in the film. 1.

| | | Cool pictures. I love seeing photos of old medical equipment left behind in abandoned hospitals.

Correct. Dever was originally a POW camp during WWII and a few buildings were saved from demolition for the new opening of the Myles Standish School for the Retarded in the 1950s soon renamed the Paul A. Dever State School and later the Dever Developmental Center which closed in phases starting in the 1980s and fully closing in 2003 nice shots. I used to have a lot of fun here.

| | | Sorry was doing a lot of posting, yes it was a State School. Although perhaps some of you would know, were the medical buildings on the campus for the patients of the school? Being that there seems to be about 3 medical buildings. As per how much is left, there is still buildings on the site however the L Buildings which were originally dormitories and some were turned into administrative space or other use have been gutted and cleaned along with the main administration building. The medical buildings, power plant, and the newer school building that's closet to the main road were still intact while I was there. I would say it's still worth visiting. | | | The building with the morgue was the hospital. Then the two infirmaries (large, more modern) are Fenton and Tapella. That's too bad they gutted admin, it was the only non trashed building there.

| | | Does anyone have a building list with the names? I've got some aerial map shots we did some work on numbering the buildings along with some photos from the Mutual AID Stations with the building names, but never did find a list or map that showed which building went with what name.

| | | Good to see this place again, it was where I met a handful of my good exploring friends. Lots of memories there, glad to see people are still enjoying it.
